Connecting spindle to breakout board
Well its been a long time coming but I'm close to getting my router table up and running. I decided to change the router to a spindle motor for more control and the reduction in sound volume you get with a spindle, also the handles on my router were reducing the usable width of my Y axis. I've bought a 3kw air cooled spindle from Ebay that comes with a 5 pin han connector and I have a 3rd gen 5 axis breakout board. looking at the info I revived with my breakout board I have one spindle control interface block that takes 1 wire from the spindle and another from the power transformer this is making me wonder what HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WIRE THEM UP? There was no paperwork with the spindle and from looking at the 5 pin han connector I have pins 1 2 3 4 and earth. can anyone please help me.
Thanks for any assistance you are able to offer.
Re: Connecting spindle to breakout board
The spindle is powered and controlled by a VFD. The breakout board may be able to control the VFD. You need to tell us exactly what components you have, with links to manuals or tech data.

Do you have a pic or link, is is it the Chinese Huanyang?

Here's how I did it on my small chinese router running LInuxcnc and the Huanyang spindle.

Re: Connecting spindle to breakout board
could I use a pwm dc speed controller to get my machine up and running and I could then decide if I want to pay for a VFD controller.
Re: Connecting spindle to breakout board
The motor is 3phase AC, you need a VFD.

Sorry, no such thing as 1ph DC (either 1ph AC, or DC), do you mean 1ph supply to the VFD?
The link you show for the spindle shows 300Hz or 400Hz, which indicates 3PH from a VFD controller.

Re: Connecting spindle to breakout board
I have basically the same spindle. It has u v w and ground wires from the spindle to the vfd. Yes you have to use a vfd for this spindle to work no questions asked. Since you purchased it without a vfd I would suggest avoiding the Chinese vfds all together and get a Hitachi wj-200-022sf or similar.

Yes That is the link I referred to in post #9. which shows a AC spindle!
Still applies.
+1 on the Hitachi.
