New project Suggestions???
Hi everyone,
I intend to build this (see images below) wood working CNC router. The footprint will be about 5' x 5', with a minimum of 8" of travel on Z (4th axis most likely and possibly even a BC head in the future).
I opted not to use 80/20 extrusions especially for the gantry beam because a 3060 would deflect to much especially if I install a BC head but it's possible I'll change my mind for other structural parts as machining might become prohibitive. I still need to check this out, your opinion would be appreciated.
At this time as you can see, I intend to use CNCRouterparts gear drive system for both the X (2) and Y axis but I'm not sure yet about the Y axis because of the unusual setup I've use at this time.
The Z setup would custom build at this time using 2 20mm rod, 4 ball slide block and a 1605 ballscrew and it's similar to a K2 product that I could use instead if I don't go for a BC head.
I also though of using a dual beam gantry design especially in the event I go for a 5 (BC) or 6 (BC on Z and A on the table) axis machine.
The current design shows Nema 23 steppers but may be I should use Nema 34, I haven't decided yet.
I'll gladly share the final design as a 3dm file.
I would appreciate your opinions, suggestions and or questions. Hopefully you're not in a hurry to see it running, I still have a lot of questions to resolve before I commit any money on this project. But I can say this, I'd like to build a moving gantry type of machine and it will most likely be a 4 axis design (XYZA) and I'd like the option to add a BC head without having to redesign the dam thing.
Thanks,
Felix
