Re: dq542ma power supply question
I am sorry that nobody answered to you, perhaps it is too late since this is an old post, but here is my answer, perhaps it helps somebody else, if you are no longer interested.
For the DQ542MA you only need one power supply and that depends on your motors. It can be used with a power supply up to 50V, so you really need to look at your motors first. I currently use my three DQ542MA drivers with 24V, but have also tested with 36V with my motors. I will in the end probably upgrade to 42V, but will not use the full 50V capability. I don't use any BOB, but yes, most of those demand 5V also. You can get that from the PC USB port or if you add a separate 5V supply if you need it. I use a USB interface, which does not need any external power, it drives the DQ542MA directly.
Re: dq542ma power supply question
thanks for the help bud, I ended up just asking wantai and they recommended 2 36volt power supplies since I'm using 4 425oz stepper motors.thanks for the reply though.

Re: dq542ma power supply question
For the bob and drivers, you will need a 5V power supply. For the motors, you will need a 48V power supply. You can find power supplies that are compatible with the 3040CNC online. Make sure you check the specifications of the power supplies to make sure they are compatible with your setup.
