Raspberry Pi Serial Communication

Hi Guys
I have been messing with a Raspberry Pi 2 and wondered if anyone has used one for wireless communication to a CNC machine ? It would be nice to not have to hock up the cable every time I want to load a program in my Shadow controller. Does anyone have some knowledge they want to share ?

Probably more work than just buying an adapter.
