Need to add fan to control box
Hello to all ,
I am trying to add a fan to my set up but I am not too sure where it should go on this breakout board can some one help. I think the fan is 22 volt and I say that because with it powered up on the old bob it measures 22 volts with a multimeter
Re: Need to add fan to control box
You want to connect the fan to the Break Out Board ( BOB)?
Firstly, the fan will rated at 24VDC as that is a standard voltage. 22v is close enough.....
Also, I would suggest it best NOT to power the fan from the BOB, if you can. Best to have the BOB on its own dedicated supply to reduce the chances of any electrical problems.
these machines can be finicky.....
Do you have a different 24VDC souce you can use?
Just my 2c worth.....
Re: Need to add fan to control box
Yes, I'd use the power supply your using for the Steppers to run the fan.
Re: Need to add fan to control box
Ok I figured it out ...I have 2 12 volt fans I will just wire them in series and use the 24v supply
Re: Need to add fan to control box
Sorry...got distracted....
If you do that , if one fails they will both fail....I'd prefer to use somehting like this:

Use that to step the voltage down to 12V for your fan.
These things are cheap and handy to have laying around.

No, do not do that. The voltage will not divide evenly between them, so one unlucky fan will soon burn out, and then the other one will do the same.
You need to either find 24V fan(s), or convert 24V to 12V. That can be easily done with a $2 buck converter:
