Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
Test
Hi so my preliminary info was wrong. The spindle is working but shakes when low RPM. Gets pretty hot and throws error code EUL I think and shows huge amp draw. All ohm meter tests look reasonable on the windings. 1=2=3. How do you take it apart? I took all the hex bolts out of the chuck end but don’t know how to proceed. Thanks
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
You need to unscrew the big aluminum nut on the bottom with the holes in it, using a pin wrench or spanner.

You are missing a letter / number with the Fault code
It is running slower than it should be if it is over heating, or you don't have it programed correct, taking it apart is not going to do anything
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
Need the complete Fault code as you see it on the VFD screen, this will help with what the problem is
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
I don't want to run the spindle again without seeing what's going on mechanically. It gets too hot and runs rough.
This is how far I got disassembly, how to proceed?

Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
Mac is right, taking it apart is like opening a can of worms. Unless the bearings were rough or something inside was dragging its more than likely in your setup Parameters . Now you have it far enough apart you will have a hard time getting it lined up and the bearings adjusted correctly. Preload adjustment is critical.
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
You have to pull the "fan" off the back end, and then there should be a LH nut under it that needs to be removed. Then it will all come apart.
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
How do we know if the preload is correct?
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
Assume that's it's probably not. I have two, and they are noticeably different.
The proper method of preloading is with matched, ground bearings, which cost more than the spindle.
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
Hi, I've uploaded a youtube video of the motor in action including throwing the error code.
The motor is making sort of a grinding noise when it runs seems like as compared to near silent running when it was new.
I've checked the drive settings and things looked normal,
50 hz,
220 v,
3 second ramp up
3 second ramp down
https://youtu.be/HYvhfp3wcUg
Thanks for everyones help so far?
Electrical code does matter, however codes are so strict around here that in this small garage I don't even attempt to meet code. I have a cousin electrician that helps when its time to finalize things.
Also, I've obviously reassembled the motor for this demo, I don't think anything has changed with bearing alignments or preload. There is clearance between the moving parts, they spin freely on their own.
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
I don't understand, are you trying to run the motor at 50 Hz? If so it will soon be burnt out. Minimum low speed under no load should never be less than 100 Hz. Mine is set at 150.

Preloading in these Spindles has nothing to do with matched ground Bearings, which would make no difference
They are preloaded by Belleville Washer washers or springs and only the Spindles that have the springs can the preload be adjusted

The fan in this case may be the Nut, so care must be taken to see if the Fan is threaded

Your Parameters settings can't be using 50Hz anywhere they have to be set at 400Hz I surprised the spindle has not smoked with using 50Hz
The Code is saying the Parameters are set incorrect which we know by the 50Hz
Here are the Parameters you need set, If this has not damaged the Spindle you got lucky
Huanyang Mactec54
2.2Kw 220v 400Hz Air Cooled
PD000=0 ( 1 For Parameter Lock )
PD001=0 (1 For Remote Control)
PD002=0 ( 1 For 0-10v Terminal Control or Remote Trim Pot Control )
( J1 Also Needs to be set for Remote Terminal Control 1-2 jumper connection )
PD003=400
PD004=400
PD005=400
PD006=5
PD007=20
PD008=220 (Motor Rated Voltage )
PD009=15
PD010=15
PD011=120 ( 120 Minimum Setting VFD, 150 is Safe for air cooled for startup )
PD13= 08 is for Factory reset, Only use this to set VFD to Factory Default Settings
PD014 Acceleration=8 ( Adjust to suit)
PD015 Deceleration=8 (Adjust to suit) ( PD15 is ignored IF PD26=1 Then the Spindle will Coast to a Stop)
PD023=0 ( Forward Run Only )
PD041=8 ( Carrier Frequency up to 10 Max for these Spindle motors)
PD120=120 ( Stall Prevention )
PD141=220 ( Motor Rated Voltage )
PD142=8 ( Or Motor Max Amps )
PD143=2 ( Motor Number of Poles)
PD144=3000 (Max Motor RPM) 3,000= (24,000)
PD70=0 ( This may need to be set to 1 if Control Voltage is 0-5v )
PD72=400
PD73=120 ( 120 Minimum RPM Setting 150 is Safe for air cooled spindles at startup )
PD174=??? ( To Be Set to the VFD Drives Max Rated Output Amps )
As you never took the Spindle completely apart you would not of changed anything with the preload or Bearings, Just make sure the front Nut is as tight as it was before around 60ft-lbs
We don't have your Spindle spec's so i'm guessing that it is 400Hz, if your spindle is 300Hz then all the 400Hz Parameters need to be 300Hz
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
I’m following the YouTube video on configuration of Huanyang VFD. He put 50hz for US. I have only changed from 400 to 50 for this video. It did not affect the speed for some reason. I am away but believe all other settings match your description. Will confirm.

It would depend where the what Parameter was set to 50Hz as to how it would affect the speed
Never go off what the Videos on YouTube use for settings, they are just trying to get going with no idea of what they are doing
Re: Chinese 2.2kw spindle burned out?
Ok I have changed all those settings over to what you said and with the same result.
Quote:
The reason we let you recheck is that if you do not set it at 400, then when you run the spindle motor, the spindle motor will be over-current, then the spindle will very hot and then within 5 minutes, it will broken.
Ok lesson learned, must have been 50 hz at some point. This really sucks out $300 bucks now
Is there any upside to my situation??

Try
PD006=2.5
I think the wiring was the cause of the whole problem, and may still be, if your cousin is not an industrial electrician he may also not of had any experience on how to wire a VFD to Spindle like this using the correct cable you need to use
IGUS is one of the best for the cable you need it is CF6-15-04 This is a 4 wire cable with a shield, the shield has to be terminated correctly also
