Advice needed (LinuxCNC + hardware)
Hi all,
Recently I got following items:
- Breakout board
- Driver DC 9-40 VDC
- Motor 4phase - 3.6V - 2.0A (/phase) - resistance: 1.8 (ohm/phase) - inductance 2.5 (ohm/phase)
- power supply: 12VCD 30A
Connected tp PC by paralle cable with USB as 5vdc supply for Breakout Board.
When I run stepconf to configure this setup I hear and measure that signal is passing BB. I can measure that it at signal side of a driver (obviously) but I do not measure any output on highvoltage side of the driver. jumpers on that drivers are set to microstepping 1:1 and amps to 2 (2.2 peak current).
Anyone who knows how to help me with this?
regards
Re: Advice needed (LinuxCNC + hardware)
I think you have the driver wired up wrong.
You should not have the Dir+ En+ and Pulse+ linked.
The inputs are "differential" inputs, to eliminate noise.
You often only need either the Dir+ or Dir- (for example) hooked up, as the drives are often designed run single ended.
Re: Advice needed (LinuxCNC + hardware)
Those are not differential inputs. They are the anode/cathode of the input optocoupler. All the + should be wired to +5 volts. The - goes to your step, direction and enable outputs of the motion controller.

On second look, it looks that way. I was looking on my phone and the driver looked like a knock off leadshine, which has differential input option and doesn't need +5v (what is the point of multiple separate +5v anyway? Wouldn't one connection point with internal connections be easier?)
Re: Advice needed (LinuxCNC + hardware)
Hi guys,
Tnx for fast reactions!
What I have done so far:
- P2 connected to DIR-
- P3 connected to PUL-
- at the motor side I followed the schema + description on the driver: BLK = A+; GRN A- ; RED = B+ ; BLU = B-;
and now I have small steps in only one direction!! :) more then ever :))
I know that I should connect P2 to PUL- and P3 to DIR- but then nothing moves. Any idea whats going on?
Re: Advice needed (LinuxCNC + hardware)
Try disconnecting the +5v from the enable signal. Its confusing, its actually a disable signal. If power is applied, the steppers are disabled. I apply 5v power to this pin when estop is pressed so the steppers can be turned by hand.
And you'll get more help on the LinuxCNC forum. I have never used a parallel port.
Re: Advice needed (LinuxCNC + hardware)
HI guys,
Thank You for suggestions! I got it working. :)

Great! What did you do to get it going?

I disconnected +5v from enable signal! :)
