Desktop injection molding machine lever design
I'm building a desktop injection molding machine like in this image but i'm confused about the lever design is it second or third class?
I know that the force is 12000 PSI , How can i calculate the arm length?

Re: Desktop injection molding machine lever design
Second class -- if that somehow matters.
All such calculations are simply a matter of Force x Distance = Force X Distance, regardless of where the fulcrum is located.
You'll need to know plunger diameter to calculate psi loading. Gotta know the square inches, there.
Re: Desktop injection molding machine lever design
My plunger diameter will be 15 mm, How can i calculate psi loading?
Re: Desktop injection molding machine lever design
Convert to inches (/25.4) then divide by 2 (radius,) square and multiply by pi (area formula.)
Re: Desktop injection molding machine lever design
12000 PSI is the pressure in pounds per square inch. Multiply it by the area on which that pressure is acting (ie the piston face) gives you force in pounds. That force divided by the force you want swinging on the handle (what, 60lb max?) is the gain the lever needs. Which in turn gives you the length of the handle.
