Alpha 550T - RS232 Problems

Hi

We have recently purchase an Alpha 550t (2001), at the time we didnt know if the RS232 was working......

It has the very basic control on. We have the alpha link software install on a win98 machine and a cable which i have double checked to make sure it is correct one.

The problem I have is, when i go to the load cam program (4) and hit the arrow key , the control returns immediately to the previous page, as if it cant listen, I think the port maybe damaged

I have connect a RS232 mini tester on it.

with just the tester plugger in RTS and DTR are lite (Red)
with cable plugged in RTS, DSR,CD,CTS and DTR are lite (Red)
with pc plugged in , all above in Red and RD green.

any ideas , pointers would be greatly appreciated
