Need help selecting parts for new cnc router build.
So I want to build a cnc router capable of cutting wood and aluminum with full depth of cut on 1/2 inch aluminum with a 48" build area. I have been looking for guides that help in choosing the right components with little success. Specifically are there any guides to choosing the right ballscrews, spindle, and linear rail?
Re: Need help selecting parts for new cnc router build.
The manufacturers of those components have formulas and calculators for selecting the right components.
If you want something that says you need a certain size to cut a certain depth, then no.
So, you wan to cut 1/2" thick aluminum in one pass, on a 48"x48" machine? This is probably a very unrealistic goal. Choosing the right components would be the easy part of that scenario.

What is a realistic goal for that footprint and material? I just need a toehold to get started here. I have no concept of what is and isn't realistic with these machines. I thought doing deeper passes was better for the tool than just cutting with the tip. I don't need one pass cuts I just need to be able to use a lot of the tool per pass.

just look at the CNCRP 4848 machines for reference.
