I'm never to CNC and I'm in the process of building my CNCRP PRO 4896 and I have a customer that wants this route for a friend of his. My question is which is better to do.
Have someone build me a custom 3d model or upgrade to Aspire?

Even if you upgrade to Aspire, there's no magic button to create a 3D model. It takes a lot of practice, and more importantly, artistic ability and skill to create good 3D models like that.
Gerry, thank you for the reply yes I understand there isnt a magic button. I'm not really concerned about artistic ability. I have a Bachelor's degree in Art, it's been a while since I've sat down & painted. I dont set down & draw much just for the fun of it, but I do draw at least once weekly at work designing signs.
My question is which is the better route having someone make the file or upgrading to Aspire and learn to do it myself

I can't answer that. It depends on how valuable your time is, and if you don't mind paying the cost of the model.
Do you know anyone that would create these for me? I'm thinking I'd leave the text & center smooth & flat so I could change those based on the department & badge number.
If they would charge a hundred or so I'll just upgrade & learn to do it myself because I seriously doubt this will be the only one I'll need.

Michael is very reasonably priced & I'm hoping to do a lot more with him. He already has a lot of the elements made so he is only charging $25 for the badge. I sent him a very intricate design & he quoted $250 for it which I also dont think is bad but I need to get the ok from my customer.
I'm going to order some bits to route the 3d stuff. Can I just use ball nose or do I really need tapered ball nose bits?
What size bits do I need for jobs from 8"x10" up to 12"x18" or so. I have some 1/8" & 1/4" ball nose but no tapered

If the thickness is not too deep, then regular ballnose may work. It depends on how much detail you need. If you fine (small) details, then you need a small tool. Tapered ballnose can be a lot stronger than a ballnose of the same tip size.
And becasue they are stronger, you can often skip the roughing passes and just do a single finish pass with a tapered ballnose.
For really fine details, I like to use 1/16" ballnose, but it'll take twice as long to cut as an 1/8" would.
Ok I've found these on eBay I know they are cheap but I've had a fair amount of luck with some of the cheap china bits.
I've also found some that range in size from .25mm, .5mm, .75mm & 1mm with 1/8" shank.

Depends on how much detail you want. You want to use the largest size that gives you the detail you need, as that will cut the fastest. If you need really high detail, then you want the smallest bits. But of course, with really small bits, cut times go up rapidly.
Yeah I guess I'd want the best compromise of speed & detail but I'm not sure if that's 1/32", 1/16" or something different. I'm sure overall size will make a difference to the detail needed.

Either 1/16" or 1/8" is probably what you want.
Ive purchased a couple stl files on eBay and one is a clock with a bird dog & shotgun, is it possible for someone with Aspire to lengthen the barrel? It's too short.
