I actually find that hard to believe. On a 16mm, 3 flute cutter at 100% tooth load, what speed and depth do you run? A good mill isn't 4ton and 10HP (plus) for no reason. Also for micron surface finish, you really need to be running coolant and at a high rate.
It's amazing how weight is so important. Something I discovered when I bought a Turner 360 with a solid cast iron base. The difference in stability of cut and surface finish regardless of cut depth is amazing.
Machining is a rabbit hole and like dharmac said when you use the pro stuff, you start to understand how bad the hobby stuff is. Then you spend all your time trying to make hobby stuff good...

Speaking of rabbit holes, AFC is my next challenge... its supported by linuxcnc, but getting it to work is another thing!!

Sounds to me like you here just to try and show off so i won't answer your question :)

@ericks: a rather rude reply to an attempt to help you.
It discourages anyone else with industrial experience from volunteering.
Cheers

chill out mate i was joking...did you miss the smiley face!
Re: Looking at a new CNC for home (might build might buy, not sure yet)
Didn't see it.
Even so, accusing someone of just trying to show off when they are trying to help you is off-putting.

Mate i am not the op, i only answered the op re using a router to mill aluminium. I was under the impression he was looking for something for home use, and according to what he was looking at i advised him.
I was not asking for advise, just stated that the machine i built does aluminium very well. The op did not indicate what tolerances he was looking for, if i missed that then i am sorry:)

Lol... I think there's probably a reason why I've been around since 2010 and this is post number 133.
Anyway... back to the topic...

Re: Looking at a new CNC for home (might build might buy, not sure yet)
This is funny to me as I was watching a vid on a 5 axis cnc and the wow factor to me was not the cutting ability, but the how rigid must the column holding the spindle .

There is a known difference between routers built with plywood and serious milling machines. :violin:
Not only rigidity, but also weight!
