Chip auger
I've cut my first 20 gallons of chips and really want a chip auger, just got a quote from my HFO, $2400 for the auger and $1440 for the install. I could swallow the $2400 but can’t get around the install. Are there any aftermarket kits available for the VF2? I’m wondering how difficult would the install be if I did it myself, anyone know what’s involved?

I am not aware of any aftermarket augers for the VF2, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. From what I have seen come in the door from Haas, just about everything comes with instructions. You probably could do the install. I wouldn't think it would be that hard. The questions you have to ask yourself, though, are these:
1) Are you willing to pay the price if you make an oops and it costs more than the $1400 for the install to fix?
2) How mechanically inclined are you?
3) Are you confident enough in your abilities to do it?
4) Is the machine still under warranty? (It may void the warranty by doing the install yourself.)
5) Will Haas or the HFO warranty the auger for whatever period is normal if you install it yourself?
I am sure there are other questions you can ask, but it all boils down to you and what you are comfortable with.

I think most every Haas options that's field installable probably comes with instructions. I would guess you bolt the auger on, connect the cables to a clearly marked connector in the control panel, and change a parameter or two. $1400 for field instillation is probably pocket change for a large shop running production, but for a single person operation like myself, I'll take a chance and diy it.

Thanks, I'll probably just install myself and save a few $$.

Here is what you have to do
1. install the motor connection on the side of your control (it will plug into your I/O pcb)
2. remove the two caps, one on each end of the chip pan
3. install the motor on the left hand side of your pan. (you will have to have some one hold it up while you put the bolts in on the inside of the machine)
4. install the chip auger and hook up the coupler to the motor
5. install the chip chute
6. turn on the par 209 bit 3
Do not forget to seal the motor and chip chute
