Increasing the axis travel on Kitamura Mycenter 1

I have a late '80s era Mycenter 1 with 12" x 18" table travels. Some Mycenter 1s are advertized with 14" x 20" travel.
I have all the covers off the machine for cleaning, and noticed that there is over 2 " of extra travel available on the Y axis ways and ball screw. Are all the Mycenter 1s the same base, and some just have reduced travel?
I am considering moving the limits, and increasing the stroke limit parameters 5221 to use this extra travel. Has anyone heard of this being done before? I machine some 12" molds, and the extra travel would be useful.
