best design for anti backlash rotary stage?
Considering several ideas for my 4th axis large scale foam carving build.
I've got a few planetary gearheads laying around the shop so that would make a fourth axis easy.
As the machine is quite large (requirements being able to machine a 4x4x4 cube} I'm worried about backlash on the rotary axis.
gear drive? belt ? other ideas?

Strain wave gear drive is what I would suggest. They are fairly expensive but you can find used ones on eBay etc. for reasonable cost. I believe Harmonic is one of the major brand names.

This is what I really need. Checking Ebay to see if I can find something useful.
Now that I know what to look for I might be able to source one from one of the local scrapyards.
