24v Step-Dir signal for servo drive
Hi,
I'm converting my Optimum BF20L mill to CNC and want to use a servo as spindle motor using step direction signals. The problem is my cnc4pc M16D board (with C78 interface) supports 5v step dir logic sinal but the servo drive (ABB e150) wants 24v step dir logic.
What is the easiest way to convert 5v signal to 24v signal?

How far have you got with this EBB system so far?.
It's easy to convert a digital 5v signal to 24v for a swich using an opto module:

BUT..............
These have standard optoisolators fitted. These are only reliable around a 20khz pulse width. Fine for steppers but not convinced on servo's. If the EBB can work with that then, fine.
Depending on the pulse width needed for the encoder count, it would need high speed optoisolators for this application.
At this point in time I would either....
1: Live with being resigned to running it using analog signals.
2: Dump either the Pokeys boards or the EBB drive and go with something else.
Could you possibly build a couple of high speed optoisolation units yourself?.

The 785 diagram looks good to me.
I haven't looked at opto speed data but as long as you don't exceed it's limit you should be all good.

I would try something simple like ULN2003 (an open collector driver).

OK I made the unit and I see the input changes when CW/CCW however the servo wont spin when I run simple g-code like M3 S100. I think I'm missing some parameters in the drive.
That E150 is a beautiful drive but darn there is no info about it.
