OKUMA 1181-11 MCS DIFF OVER X AXIS ERROR
Hello All,
Wish you all a happy new years 2021!
We have an Okuma lathe LB 300 R with OSP-U100L controller, we have been getting this intermittently 1181-11 MCS DIFF OVER X AXIS ERROR and the lathe use to run after turning off for a while and switch back-on until now as the x axis does not move nor the reading changes in display in jog. WE had a humming sound before in jog as it would alarm out MCS DIFF after moving an mm or so.
No mechanical damage observed and ball screw is in good condition. we connected the z axis motor wires to x motor and it works fine. Also the z wires from drive have been connected to x motor it works fine as well. But when we connect the x wire from drive to either motor they doesnt work. We have come to conclusion that the wires, motors, ball screw seems to be ok. After doing this exercise of disconneting motors now we no longer receiving any error alarm, just that axis will not move. we checked the drive and it does not have any visible issues, Does anyone know of what could be the problem? does it have to do with any parameter/software issue?
Re: OKUMA 1181-11 MCS DIFF OVER X AXIS ERROR
check X axis motor brake. check encoder and encoder link to control.
However, I would recommend double/ triple check mechanical points. I would move X axis full stroke forward - back rotating the ball screw by hand to be sure about mechanical condition.
some lathes are equipped with some kind "balance" mechanism for slanted bed. Don't know about this exactly model, but it makes point to check. The "balance" creates the force reacting against total saddle weight to make movement balanced and easier.
Re: OKUMA 1181-11 MCS DIFF OVER X AXIS ERROR
If you can move the x and have no issues when driving it with the Z drive, then based on your description you have either a bad X cable or X drive unit. I would guess that you can no longer move x because you have exceeded the X limits when you tried moving it with the z drive. The motor has an absolute encoder so it will keep the position even after disconnecting it. Use the PR Zero offset in system parameters to get the position back between your limits. You probably see either overflow or a number outside of your limits on your X display I’m guessing?
Best regards,

Hello Algirdas, we did check everything the mechanical and encoder , the machine works when Z drive is connected to x motor , the ball screw is smooth by hand as well. Now we are left with two items either servo data file or drive, we are going to change some major parts in the drive and check it out. The machine was sitting all these days.!!!ughh
Re: OKUMA 1181-11 MCS DIFF OVER X AXIS ERROR
Hey Okumawiz, yes you are correct, we increase the soft limits and it does move after interchanging. the problem is now either the drive or servo data file. unfortunately we do not have the floppys working, do you know if we can get access to servo data file or is there a way to manually enter it? the machine is Spaceturn LB 300 R with OSP-U100L controller.
Re: OKUMA 1181-11 MCS DIFF OVER X AXIS ERROR
Update your PR Zero offset to get the present position in between the limits. You need to adjust zero settings and limit settings after.
