Looking for some UC300eth recommendations
Building a new machine. Current machine is uc300eth-5lpt with a C10s, G540.
I really like ger’s 2017 screenset, so compatibility is a must.
Parameters:
4 gecko 201x drivers
Hard E stop
Software e stop
4 homing switches (dual drives on y gantry)
2 probe inputs (actually 3, but UCCNC only supports 2).
Feed hold.
Cycle start.
Activate relays for router and dust collection on-off.
Ultimately a 2.2kw VFD spindle (no idea yet what kind of i/o those require).
Ultimately a laser (again, no idea what kind of i/o those require).
12v or 24v on inputs would be nice for noise immunity, but I don’t know if actually necessary.
I’m fine with keyboard jogs.
I’m thinking my options are UC300eth with:
5lpt and w two C10s bobs
Cncroom ub1, maybe with ud1, but probably not needed.
CNC4pc C76
Thoughts?

If you already have a 5LPT Motherboard, you can easily add expansion boards with additional functions:

CNC Drive has some nice boards as well, like the UCBB and UCSB.
As mentioned on CNC Drive's forum, the AXBB-E is a good choice if it has enough I/O. I prefer the UB1, because I want/need more I/O than the AXBB-E has.
I have both an AXBB-E and UB1, and they are both nice.
The UB1 is for my router, and the AXBB-E is sitting on my desk for testing during screenset development.

Can you expand on the need for I/Os a little further please? Am I correct in thinking that they are needed for limit and homing switches and maybe for controlling pumps etc? What else are they typically used for?
Let's say I'm building a standard 4 axis machine 2 for the Y and one each for the X and Z with say a water cooled spindle, how many I/Os are likely to be needed? I'm asking because I've been looking at using a AXBB-E for my build but a good deal of forum posts that I find always seem to mention the number of I/Os as being a reason to maybe choose a different approach. I want to use UCCNC so it will either end up being a AXBB-E or a UC300ETH and a separate BoB. If I can avoid the added costs of using the second option (UC300ETH) then I'd prefer that but if the AXBB-E doesn't have sufficient then I'll just use the 2nd option.

Any device which interfaces requires an input or output.
Inputs are used to get signals from switches, buttons, sensors, ...
Outputs are used to control motors, and activate relays, LED's, ...
How many you need depends on the number of devices connected to the controller.
