G-code/GRBL for M900, MPC6515, upgrade, firmware etc.

Hi,
our makerlab to be, has been given a laser cutter (M900). I believe it is equipped with an (obsolete??) MPC6515. Searching for info I've come to this forum. However the posts are rather 'outdated', most of the links don't work anymore. Hence my post...

Are there any updates for the MPC6515? Will it understand G-code or GRBL?
Should I take another path? Have a look at PyCNC, maybe?

The (chinese) docs are somewhat inconclusive. A PCI card is mentioned (which I don't have). A USB interface is talked about... Drivers for AutoCAD or CorelDraw are mentioned...

I would like the thing to understan (offline produced) G-code or GRBL. Is this feasible?
