stepper motor not locking gantry in postion
Hi guys I started my machine today and when I jogged the gantry I noticed that one side of my gantry was not engaging correctly. I can pull on the one side of my gantry and it is locked into place by my stepper motor. I do the same on the other end of my gantry and there is movement in the gantry. I unplugged the stepper and reconnected I can hear it engage but it I can still freely move it. I have added a video to see if anyone has an idea what is wrong.
The gantry will move the length of my table to the motor is working. I have also checked to make sure the belts is tight that moves the gantry I also made sure my backlash was still enabled in mach3.
Thanks in advance .

Definitely a mechanical problem. Loose or missing grub-screws?
Cheers

Re: stepper motor not locking gantry in postion
So I am back out in the shop and I pulled the motor off the rack and I can manually turn the pulley about 1/4 turn. I did the same on the other side the one that is locked into place and it is tight no movement I think my stepper my be broke. I checked for tightness as you both had suggested and everything is tight. Also when I turn the power to the machine off and everything unlocks it moves freely I reengage the power and the one locks up and the other one still moves 1/4 of a turn then is tightens up. Almost like backlash in the motor. Attachment 385122

Sounds like an electrical connection. Check your driver for that motor, make sure all wires are tightened firmly and all are in the correct order.

Pull the pulley off the motor and check the motor.
But my guess it that the pulley is just loose on the shaft.
Re: stepper motor not locking gantry in postion
I solved the issue. I relooked at the pulley and I checked the set screws on the 1/4 shaft from the pulley. They were loose and slipping. Thanks for the suggestions I thought it was for sure a stepper issue.
