Feature axis calibration on PlanetCNC
Is there any possibiliy to provide a set of calibration data for each axis in order to improve the axis position accuracy. PlanetCNC should be able to use these data to correct the axis setpoint values (for each axis) and make interpolation between two calibration points. This would improve the machine's accuracy.
Thanks for responses!
All the best

Re: Feature axis calibration on PlanetCNC
I'm not sure I understand this . CNC machine is (or at least should be) accurate without any calibration. What inaccuracies are you referring to?
Re: Feature axis calibration on PlanetCNC
Yes,in theory a cnc machine is accurate, in reality there are always small deviations.
For example:
Position the X axis in machine coordinates to position 10, 20, 30, 50, 60 mm and so on and measure with an accurate tool the movement of the axis and you will find maybe 9.99, 20.02, 30.05, 39.98, 50.01, 60.02 mm and so on.
So you will get an error list -0.01, 0.02, 0.05, -0.02, 0.02 mm at the testpoints.
Same for Y-axis and Z-axis.
If this error characteristic is repeatable it can be compensated by software and thus improve the machine's accuracy. Thanks for responses AHorn
Re: Feature axis calibration on PlanetCNC
Yes. No.
Typically the error is not repeatable.
You screws typically have bearings that are not ac, and are poor in other ways, and are not properly anchored.
Aka the screws are not firmly fixed into one side, with a controlled preload.
Only once they are, can any further measures be useful.

Re: Feature axis calibration on PlanetCNC
EdingCNC offers a
- Pitch-Compensation-Table
- Cross-Compensation-Table
(See here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z56frLx5KO0)
to compensate above described errors :-) ==> seams to make sens. Can believe me, I was responsibel in coordinate measurement machines and there this was a standard.
