Dust Collection Requirements
I have a DIY 5' x 5' CNC with 3HP spindle and I usually cut hardwood at around 180ipm and plywood at around 300ipm and I'm wondering if anyone knows what dust collection CFM this requires?
I moved up from a Shapeoko where I used a Fein shop vac and it worked well, but it's not cutting it with the new CNC. I want a dedicated DC for the machine, but want to take up as little space as possible. Wondering what others are using that works and if anyone knows actual CFM numbers that I would need for this. I am using the Kent CNC dust boot.

To get rid of fine dust (the stuff that actually matters) you need to move a lot of air. 800cfm plus at the tool.
The CFM ratings on dust collectors are usually grossly overrated and are free air tests.
Practically you need a 3hp dust collector. 6 inch pipe work to as close as possible to the tool. 4 inch to the dust collector will only move about 400cfm.
Removing fine dust is a volume game (large dust collector). Removing chips / large bits can be done with high velocity low flow (a vacuum).

You can never have too much dust collection. I always recommend a minimum of 2HP, and somewhere around 800-1000CFM minimum.
Note that the actual CFM of most dust collectors is less than their advertised ratings.

I have a 3HP DC in the shop now that is piped to all of my machines and it does a great job, but the CNC is way across the shop and ducting to it would be near impossible. So, I'm looking for something powerful enough to collect the CNC dust as a dedicated machine, but in as small a package as I can get.

I'm thinking either of those with 10' of flex hose directly to the CNC should be enough CFM.
