Ground question on 2.2 kw water cooled spindle
My 2.2 pin #4 has continuity with nothing. From what I've researched its probably an unconnected ground. Don't want to pull the back off this
rt now so I'm wondering - will I be OK just grounding the spindle case or mount block?
Thanks to all

There should be a ground wire in your 4 wire feed to the spindle power, just ground to it. All thats required is you ground to the metal on the spindle. You can not depend on the Z axis being 100% grounded at all times.

from another post here on cnczone a photo of an added earth connection inside a spindle
Attachment 420072
at best the chinese are very lax with the earthing on their products
and do not reserve the green/yellow wires for earth/ground connections !!!
also don't use the same cable colour code through out
the photos of one 6040 machine I used to trace the wiring had the stepper motor wires change colour twice
the cable had different colours to the motor and the wiring inside the cnc control box was different again
wiring for one machine
Attachment 420074
Attachment 420076
Attachment 420082
another machine had used different colour cables !
I suspect they use the cheapest cable available when the machine is made
and different manufacturers make their own version of what looks like the same machine

PS
To avoid opening the spindle motor
I would have a look to see if you can use one of the 4 screws that fastens the end on the motor or the 4 screws that fastens the connector to attach an earth wire to the motor
