Re: Path Pilot 2.0 Get Ready!!! Tormach has a page for it now!
I was wondering the same thing. It isn't movement volume:
1100: 2779 ci
770: 1391 ci
440: 625 ci
It isn't table area:
1100: 323 in^2
770: 208 in^2
440: 113 in^2
The closest thing seems to be motor Watts:
1100: 1.5 hp = 1119 W
770: 1.0 hp = 746 W
440: 2/3 hp = 497 W
Or maybe weight (without stand)
1100: 1130#
770: 662#
440: 450#

I have always assumed it was weight. It seemed to be pretty close. Slant Pro 15 is not as cryptic. ;)

It does seem kind of weird. Many manufacturers name their mills by tables size, and their lathes by swing (diameter). Weight doesn't really adequately describe the machine's capabilities.
In that case, we should have the PCNC3410, PCNC2608, and PCNC1806.

Sure hope we aren't gettin' excited over a 50lb machine lol. Maybe it would come with backpack straps.

50#? That would be in 3D Printer territory... which seems unlikely, as that market is already swamped.

the 50?? 8" X 4.8" X 5.125" ??? small machine.
Re: Path Pilot 2.0 Get Ready!!! Tormach has a page for it now!
You might be overthinking it, it may be more marketing based.
Why not start with the 1100...it was the first model That was based on weight. It was 1100 lbs. So it began....
Then the 770 was just a proportional guestimate for a smaller version with a number that sounds good for marketing.
And the 440 the same.

I've nevertheless been playing with it for a while and I was quite impressed with the first tests in imperial units (I haven't run the profile routine on the machine yet - maybe tomorrow). However, it took me a few attempts to get it running in metric because it carried some initial values from imperial and it wasn't too happy. Once you get the hang of it it's actually quite nice :) Just check over ALL the values.
Step
There is now a Tormach video on using the profile feature:

Could be. Seems like an unfortunate choice to have a PC run that thing. All you are selecting is cut width X ## of pieces. Seems like you could run that thing with an arduino. They managed to run the steppers for their surface grinder without resorting to PC control.
