Exclamation Scary acceleration on downward xyz carving.

    Hi everyone,

    I’ve owned a 4008 AXYZ since new in 2006.

At one time, I had my whole shop downsized and stuffed into a shipping container. It stayed like that for almost 5 years.

2 years ago, I hooked everything back up but my old old old xp pc crapped the bed.
I had to buy a new usb optical converter and I was back in business except the machine didn’t behave as it once did.

My programmed pauses for manual tool changes are ignored. The spindle stops but doesn’t return home to let me reset my tooling. Not a big deal, I’ve managed to work with it.

When cutting 2D shapes, which is often, my feed is constant. The machine is normal. BUT when I do a 3D carve, which is my thing, I have an uncontrollable acceleration on downward carving. I change the feed to a slower IPM and these downward motions ignore this setting. The flatter areas or upward motions conform to my inputs. Let’s say working at 100IPM,the downward motion feed jumps to 300 +. My bits just can’t handle that , let alone my heart!

I’m running 2.8.xx to toolpath. I’ll admit that other than sending the file out to the machine, I’ve been afraid to fiddle with settings with this program. 21 years and I know very little about how to troubleshoot this machine. Last I spoke to AXYZ in Burlington Ontario, they don’t really have anyone that knows the ins and outs of the version it’s running. I don’t even know where to find the info on that. They helped me get it to the state it’s in and… snack snack, all done..good luck.

Anyone had a similar problem and able help me out?

    Thanks

I have some increasingly distant experience with an AXYZ 6010 and my memory is telling me that you can access a page where the machine parameters are set via the Toolpath software. As long as you have a record of those parameters,it shouldn't be difficult. We were warned that any operating system more recent than XP might not be compatible with the version of Toolpath that came with the machine,so you may need to find a vintage machine or run a virtual machine to overcome this hurdle.I know absolutely nothing about virtual machines and can't offer any suggestions in that respect.

I find it interesting that you use the machine for mainly 3D work as I found that it took a very long time to transfer files of a large size via the RS485.

If your AXYZ 4008 loses control of the Z-axis tool speed during 3D engraving, but is normal during 2D cutting, it may be due to a CAM post-processing G code problem (such as the Z-axis tool is mistakenly set to G0 rapid movement), abnormal controller parameters (acceleration/deceleration settings are too high), or mechanical problems (Z-axis servo motor, brake, or encoder aging). Solutions include: checking and manually modifying the tool speed in the G code (make sure to use G1 instead of G0), adjusting the Plunge Rate in the CAM post-processing, reducing the Z-axis acceleration parameters in the controller, and checking mechanical parts (such as lubrication, servo tuning). If the problem persists, try replacing the post-processor or upgrading the control system (such as Mach3). After years of storage, the hardware may need to be recalibrated. It is recommended to contact a professional maintenance personnel to troubleshoot the servo drive problem.

It’s not just the z that I lose control of, it’s all 3 axis but only on downward milling.
Imagine a slanted circle, one side higher than the other. From the lowest point, as the bit climbs to the highest point, it’s normal. Once it reaches the peak and heads back down, it takes off like a shot, then slows down again at the bottom.

    It’s nerve-wracking!

Thanks for your info so far
