  1. Re: Lathe Spindle Drive Options - AC Servo vs BLDC vs Stepper vs DC Brushed

IIRC I managed to get the Yaskawa's for around $200 for the servo and servo driver together shipped... So, ya, I stole them.

I feel like between 350w and 500w of BLDC or AC servo would be more...
  2. Re: Lathe Spindle Drive Options - AC Servo vs BLDC vs Stepper vs DC Brushed

So I think I have a few things figured out. I found a handy little stepper motor calculator here: Stepper Motor Calculator

In terms of power the StepperOnline NEMA 34 stepper is capable of about...
  3. Lathe Spindle Drive Options - AC Servo vs BLDC vs Stepper vs DC Brushed

So I am trying to wrap my head around a few things. Watts generally is power (consumed and delivered) - and here is where I believe that I am getting confused (on several fronts).

    I have the...

Re: Seeking advice for cnc machine purchase

    Danny

Since I have taken a step off the reservation (not using Mach 3 or LinuxCNC) and opted instead to purchase Planet CNC's USB based controllers with a variety of different motor drivers, I...
  5. Another power supply/toroidal wiring question... 230vac vs 115vac

So I have the following components on hand to build a power supply.

    Plitron 750VA model#107033201 dual 115VAC input with dual 50VAC output @ 7.5A (x1 transformer)
    Panasonic 100VDC 10,000uF...

Re: Need help with stepper motor connections

Use the highest voltage your driver can reasonably accept and is practical, anything less and you are shooting yourself in the foot. The difference in performance between a 24 volt and 36 volt power...

Re: Need help choosing power supply

Why don't you just rectify the voltage at 68Vac to 68Vdc?

Sure, it's not quite 90 volts, but that would save you the trouble of bothering with adding a transformer coming off the power supply.
  8. Re: X2 Mini Mill Build with Digispeed Spindle Control and USBCNC MK3 controller.

Thanks Peter, it does work rather well and was pretty easy too get working. I started playing with the outrunner motors today, as I picked up some small cheap ones for proof of concept. These little...
  9. X2 Mini Mill Build with Digispeed Spindle Control and USBCNC MK3 controller.

I am posting this in part for my own reference as well as others who might need just a little help in figuring it all out. I am using the CNC Fusion Ball Screw Kit, which is working fantastic, and...
  10. Re: Using DMM Servo to power lathe or milling spindle

Thanks, that was exactly the answer I was looking for because I want to be able to do rigid tapping and threading eventually.

Sounds like I am on the right path.
  11. Using DMM Servo to power lathe or milling spindle

Be gentle, I am new to the CNC world... so this may be a stupid question, but I will ask it.

I have both a HF mini mill and mini lathe, both of which are in the process of being converted to CNC. ...
