I went with 2:1 with a 5 start screw. My motor is a 425oz with Leadshine. Not sure how its going to work out for sure but I already had the motor and driver so i thought I would use it first. Good...
Well yes but I am the worst at updating this thread! Sorry for that. I hope to have a better update video on youtube in the next day or so. My internet connection is so slow I have a hard time...
A few more progress pics. It's really starting to take shape now. I have my lead screw out having the ends turned down to fit the bearings so when I get that back I can finish up the Z axis. Motors...
Does anyone see a problem with the leadnut anchor point being at the top of the Z axis instead of somewhere towards the middle? It would be easier for me to access the leadnut for adjustments/service...
Check out a build log here by a user name "planekrazie". He built an awesome belt drive cnc and incorporated gear reduction and the whole shebang. Looked impressive and could do 1000 IPM rapids.

Check out the Momus design here on the forums it can be modified to suit the size you're looking for. I've been milling a lot of aluminum on mine lately and it's doing a fine job for my needs.

Sounds like you may have some binding issues. If its making alot of racket when cutting something is binding up somewhere. Check everything then check it again to make sure. Sometimes the slightest...

This is all starting to sound on old familiar tune in my head. If you look at the year I joined this forum you will see it was 2009. That's when I started planning the machine I am currently building...
Thanks for the input guys. Gerry, do you think a motor that size would do ok with the weight Im going to have? I havent weighed anything yet but the Z is going to be at least in the 15lb range I...
Im trying to decide if I need any gear reduction on my Z axis. Im going to be using a 5 start screw. Do you guys think I would still want/need or benefit from a 2:1 or 3:1 reduction also? What would...
Thanks C1, I really appreciate that. Truth be told though I've already messed up a couple of things on this build but I'm getting really good at hiding the evidence!!

Looks like you're off to a great start! Keep it up. Ill be following your build as Im doing a 4x5 all aluminum build right now myself.
Done for the day. I got a lot accomplished today and it's getting fun now! The Z axis is almost complete sans the drive assembly and the Y car is taking shape. I gave it a name just for kicks! Does...
This is the router mount I made on the Momus. Works like a charm!! Took about two hours start to finish milling the parts tapping holes and assembling them all on the Z plate. This thing is going to...
More progress yesterday. I got the gantry and some more of the z axis mocked up. I'm using the Momus to mill the parts for me and it's working fantastically. Please excuse the messy shop, it's about...
