  1. Re: Granite Base Moving Gantry - Looking For Feedback

I suspect that the low-power slitting saw will be a non-issue re:spindle lifetime.

Commercial VMCs, large, typically only use about 2-3-4 amps at 3-phase 440, except in getting up to spindle...
  2. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

One of the most successful, rich, engineering company founders made videos on youtube, showing how strong or rigid parts are.

2 steel parts bonded by rubber bands are as strong as if they were...

    Re: Aluminium printer/milling machine build.

    Yeah right.
About 4 trillion dollars per years is spent on concrete and buildings by builders, globally.

There is probably exactly nothing that high-end builders don´t know about concrete ..

Re: new laser trouble with servo motor

If You bought a big new laser, it´s assumed for a business.
Get someone experienced to come and take a look.

For 500$ you can get excellent advice, and the problem may or may not be solved.

  5. Re: Tips on casting machine base with Sika212?

    1. No.
    2. Yes.

Concrete, and derivations, are pretty weak in terms of strength, bending, and rigidity.
They are strong in compression, and good in vibration resistance.

    A mill C frame, like a...

Re: Wiring Diagram check - CNC BUILD

    I dunno .. but ..
you have the estop going to the spindle only.

I suggest adding estop to either hold / disable the servo drives,
or optionally depower the servo drives, depending.
  7. Re: Advice needed for parts selection for new DIY CNC Mill

Guys .. the nr 1 issue is column size, not thickness.
    A 30 x 30 cm column is VASTLY more rigid than a 15 x 15 cm column.

Likewise, a 200 mm free length at end of column vs 400 mm is 8 x less...

Re: What limits the capabilities of my CNC

    OP LaBelle.
It´s a rabbit hole, and far deeper than You probably think.

One of the best controllers is the cslabs csmio-ips, that I use.
    For about 6 years.
    After trying 5 different ones.

  9. Re: DIY machine. Possibilities/capabilities/opinions and a heap of advice please

A 4 foot gantry driven centrally is fine.
Endless VMC do this with much larger pieces cutting steel.

You should upsize your frame and gantry rigidity about 10x.

Easiest way imo, ime, is to...
  10. Re: Suitability of Centroid Acorn controller for gear hobbing application

    Fwiw..
mach3 has been a realtime controller with closed loop IF and ONLY IF you have the right hw that closes the feedback loop at the ac servo level and or controller level.

    So it can fault...

Re: Horizontal / 90-degree machine or adapter

There are good horizontal 90-degree angle tools from industrial suppliers.
For plastic enclosures they are what You probably want.

Probably about 3000$ for 1-2 tools.
