The same happened with me few years ago. Note that putting gender ganger changer in between the wrong socket mounted on the PCB does not swap the pins.

you must have used wrong subd9 socket, look at the PCB for the pin 1 marking. just change the socket gender to swap the pins.

You are absolutely right The PCBs I had made are of Stefan8051 design. If tried and tested PCB layout is available here why should go for the new one.
