Re: Inspecting ballscrews - Boss 5

Some manuals can be found here Bridgeport

You would also be wise to check the lub nozzles to make sure they are working and not plugged. This will require the removal of the table.

  4. Re: BP Series 1, 2HP Rigid Ram. RPM max only 2600. Otherwise perfect. ???

You could download a R2E3 maint manual off the net as it will be close. The attachment might help. As far as VFD 50 , 60 etc htz at 440 volts is the same as at 220 ?
  5. Re: BP Series 1, 2HP Rigid Ram. RPM max only 2600. Otherwise perfect. ???

Another thing to check. What is the rpm of the motor ? If not up to spec, you might want to check that the three phase voltage matches the voltage taps at the motor. On the motor there is a diagram...

  8. Re: Bridgeport Series 1 Rigid Ram spindle speed off by 50%. ???

The lub pump plunger is activated when the spindle turns on and stops when spindle stops. The original system used those low voltage contacts on the top of the MF/MR relay. You will also have to look...
  9. Re: Bridgeport Series 1 Rigid Ram spindle speed off by 50%. ???

This attachment might help. If speed is off by the same amount at all settings, then you need to adjust dial. Belt wear , would only show as a small change. Also make sure that the speed increases...
  10. Re: Pneumatic brake problem BP Series 1 rigid ram

On the boss machine, lub is on when the spindle is active. There is a float level switch in the lub oil tank that will not allow the spindle to start if the level is low. The control of the pump is...
  11. Re: Pneumatic brake problem BP Series 1 rigid ram

Normally the brake on /off is linked to the mr/mf relay. On the top of the spindle relay, there are low voltage contacts that are used to connect or disconnect brake so that when spindle is on, brake...
  12. Re: Pneumatic brake problem BP Series 1 rigid ram

The system engages the brake when 24 volts is supplied to the solenoid valve, this allows air pressure to flow to pneumatic piston to engage brake. Remove the 24vdc from solenoid and the valve should...

Might someone have used an "anti-oxidant" paste on the wires? If these were thought to be aluminum wires, it would be standard practice and does ooze when heat or time has been applied.
