Re: stepper or servo for Torus Pro?

    Servo motors move smoother.
    Servo motors can go faster.
Servo motors are not as noisy.
Servo motors have position feedback and will fault and stop if position is lost or an obstruction is ran...

    Re: Another CNC3040 question thread

I have been eyeing the TinyG and Gshield myself. I have ported my firmware to the Arduino Due so that with the Gshield looks like a fun project.

    Re: Another CNC3040 question thread

The motor shaft diameter can be an issue if they do not match between the 3040 and the motors you buy.

  6. Re: Controller Step input questions - any Einsteins out there?

Servo motors are always playing catchup or wait it's ahead.
The P is for proportionally how far off it is.
The I is a sum of the P's over Time.
The D is a reverse of P over time hence it dampens...
  7. Re: why am i losing steps...advise ////opinions..

The thunk sound when the motors are running is caused by a interrupt in the host operating system, it is why signal generators work better.
  8. Re: Controller Step input questions - any Einsteins out there?

The axis motor velocity is controlled by the step pulse rate created by Mach4 which is determined by the feed rate and the vector of the movement.
The actual positioning of the motor shaft is done...

    Re: dual stepper mtors

A driver for each motor is a good plan.

The next consideration is calibration or homing the machine to switches.

My solution was to know when the machine was homing when a limit switch was...
  10. Re: building my own cnc, not sure about motor drivers

The current ratings are not that specific. When you smell hot varnish coming from the motor and you can't touch the motor the current is too high.

If you over drive a motor with too much current...

Re: Mach3 Steppers not driving motor.

When the driver is enabled it should hold the motor in place. When it is not, you should be able to get the shaft to move with your fingers.

    This is the first step.

Re: DM 3000 X axis problem

If it is an open loop motion then it must be stepper motors with driver modules.

If that is the case it might not be very expensive to update the control system.

    Re: Z axis strange behavior

Milling foam can create high static charges that can discharge with an arcing voltage.

I have seen ion generators placed in the work chamber of machines to reduce the static charges.

    Awesome drawings.
