Very impressive!

When ramping, set your "plunge" speed in your tool setup, the same as feed speed. Otherwise the cam software uses the slowest axis speed setting. When not ramping, set the plunge speed much slower....
I started with VCarve Desktop, so I know what you mean.
I just noticed that yours is the 2x4, I have the 4x4, so that might explain the difference in speeds too. I have one of the first Saturn 1...
Wow, that's moving right along. I haven't tried pushing mine past 600.
I agree with vectric products, I am using Aspire and still learning. After watching your ramping, I watched my previews and...
Looks great! What kind of rapids are you getting? I have mine set at 600ipm, but I have the steel gantry too.
On your profile cut, how did you get your ramp on each pass to start in a different...
Looks like you are making good progress.
Obviously, I am not very observant as I just noticed that you started your build out with a steel gantry and now you have a aluminum gantry. Can you give...
I set the bit diameter and depth of cut. You should download the trial version. I have tried FS Wizard too, along with many other F&S programs.
GWizard is a very powerful tool and you can modify for your machine. They are having a 20% off sale on all their software now....
Here is another source for spindles and vfd's. I have the 2.2kw air cooled spindle purchased here, but it is paired with a Automation Direct GS3 VFD. Works great and have never had any issues with...
There is a guy on the Router Forums (David F) that may be able to help you as I think he is running Mach4 with the very first Saturn built.

No, I have 2 steppers on the Y axis. Look at the .hal file.
Sent you an email with config files.
Dave
If interested, PM me and I can give you my Linuxcnc config files to see if they help. Do you know how to modify these, as you would need to change machine limits for sure. Really all you should...
What size machine do you have? I don't have a CNCRouter parts machine, but I do have a FLA Saturn 4x4 that I am running Linuxcnc on. I don't know for sure, but I think the R&P drives are the same...
If you put it in your post processor file in Aspire, then it will be applied each time you create a toolpath using that post processor. Either way will work.
I do not use Mach, but rather Linuxcnc, but I believe the code is the same. You could add this to your post processor file after the spindle start command.
G4 P1.5 (pause 1.5 seconds for spindle...
Thanks Nate!
Nate,
Sent you an email on 4/23 regarding rack spacers bolts, have not received a response...
Dave
Don't recall the site that I bought mine from, but here is the exact one except for color. I have been really happy with it and it is much cheaper than a lot of them out there....
What CAM software are you using? I get very similar results when using the Quick Engrave toolpath in Vectric software using a diamond drag bit.
Looking forward to the rest of your build. I have a Saturn 4x4 as well. Looks like your enclosure is going to be full.
Dave
What did you do differently this time, David? I haven't checked mine lately, but haven't had any real reason to...
Dave
I was always told that you should look at the waste piece and if the cut looked cleaner on that piece, than you should switch your toolpath direction. From the pictures, it looks like that is the...
I would probably agree with Gerry. Though I don't use Mach software, can't help with settings.
Is the cut direction the same? Climb vs Conventional? Is the waste piece on the 'red' image smooth...
Just an update to my post. Nate contacted me and has sent (with tracking #) the upgrades that I was entitled to. I look forward to receiving them.
Thanks Nate!
Dave
Thanks Nate. Sent you an email.
What about pricing on the other upgrades mentioned above?
Dave
Nate,
When can existing Saturn owners expect to get the promised rack spacers? Are the new upgrades on your website, as I haven't been able to locate anything? Most interested in the R&P drive...
Make sure that the shield is only connected to ground at ONE end of the cable.
Nate,
Glad to see that you are continually making improvements. When can existing owners expect to receive the rack spacers?
Dave
Not sure how other owners of the Saturn machine feel, but I think that if improvements are being made due to quality or safety issues, they should be made available at no charge. Not any different...
