Thanks Fastest,
That leadscrew looks very different from mine - both the pitch and the end connection. Obviously mine is metric but the entire thread form actually looks different.

Disassembly pics of lathe. Came apart pretty easy, carriage took some convincing but then slid off easily once the bind was broken.

Thanks for the tips Ray. I'll try to get the parts as close to the steel as possible, but I don't have any extra steel plate on hand currently so I'll have to stick to the rebar for now.
I am pretty sure Ray is referring to the Monster. It does look pretty absurd with that tall thin tower. As I understand it Taig mills have a pretty good reputation.
Good luck whatever you choose...
Hi all,
I bought a package off of CL including a sherline mill, lathe, and pile of accessories. There is another thread discussing its purchase.
Since all of the equipment has been setting - I...
Thanks Moto, Fastest, Wizard.
Moto - thanks for the info about the used buying guide, I hadn't seen that. Turns out the mill is just a 5000 model, but has the spacer block on the head so has the...
Well, I got the package for $1,100. Most stuff has a light surface rust, the rotary table a little heavier but I can turn it so I think it'll clean up. The mill is only a 5000 not 5400, but has 5"...
Thanks for the feedback moto...
Guess I will see what comes with it and go from there

Hi all,
I am going this afternoon to look at a Sherline Mill and Sherline Lathe. I don't really have pictures, but he says he's had it about a year and hasn't used it so is getting rid of it. ...
Outsider,
I'm not a big guy, and I had no problem with the G0704 mill all by my lonesome.
I would have had TONS of problems if I had only broken it down into 2 pieces - column/head and...
Locating key - yes. If I recall I think it may have to be modified to fit the G0704 t-slots. I attached some pics from when I first got mine.
If using it in the Y (like in the picture) direction...
I use a 4" and it is a pretty good fit.
I use the "CNC" style vise so you don't have the flange - no modding required
Mine is like this one. I think I got mine for about $90 bucks...

Sorry for the perhaps ignorant question - I have not read much about these printers.
What kind of tolerance can one hold with these machines - for example, would it be possible to make some lathe...
Well, for the unibody design you'll probably have to pay up more $$$ or look and wait for a good deal to show up.
I've got one like I'm linking below, but in the 4" since I'm on a smaller machine....

Ah..no, I hadn't seen that one amazingly enough.
My shuttle was already adjusted down to .004.
However, I did start tweaking that number in conjunction with my accel, rapid speed, and % speed...
Frederic,
Unfortuntely no, it doesn't happen ONLY when I am jogging manually. (But *mostly* when manually)

Yeah, the title says it all.
When I am running at rapid (and I've adjusted my rapid down some)...say anything over 100 IPM, if I am running the Y only, then bring on the X additionally,...
Base/Column/Table weigh...a little bit. The head by itself isn't all that heavy....a little awkward to know where to grab it is all.
I would recommend at least taking the column off as well as...
Well, even with the 'benefits' of the loud machine... I would prefer mine to be quiet.. (the door to the garage is to the side of the mill so no sneaking possible :nono: )

For all you with belt drive conversions....
How loud is your mill? I am using timing pulleys.
I just barely got it hooked up so just had enough time for a quick little trial.
Seems pretty...
Obviously I'm not Hoss, but on the video you want to link, it shows the code to paste. Somewhere next to it there should be a button that says something like "Show Long Link". IIRC, if you use the...
Worked for me just now. Maybe it was just a quick glitch with the server?

Formula SAE huh? I worked on that very briefly - didn't have much extra time - when I was at Rolla getting my ME...pretty cool stuff.
Anyhow, to give some approximate numbers from my experience....
Video now uploaded.
What else, if not the grinding on the underside, could make the table bow in the Y direction only?
I "ASSUME" it is the grinding...can't find any other causes.
