    Hey machinists!

I'm sure you'll love to see this video that I made in my workshop! So satisfying to see those chips!

  2. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

Thank you very much for your response. I've bought AC servos, 2x0.75kW for X and Y and 1kW for Z axis. They are going to be mounted directly. I'll keep you posted how it goes, but according to your...
  3. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

The problem is that I'm deciding between:

    Option 1:
    -2x DMM DYN4 driver & 0.75KW Servo Motor for X,Y (Direct drive)
-1x DMM DYN4 driver & 0.75KW Servo Motor for Z axis with Holding Brake (1:2...
  4. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

How do those servos compare to 3 phase steppers?
    Leadshine Technology Co., Ltd.

When directly driven, it seems they could work great in full range of expected speeds... Is there any other...
  5. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

Sure you can throttle down servos, but if you use servos only in 0-10% of their RPM range, they can be hard to tune and you're wasting basically all of their potential...
  6. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

Someone (more experienced) just suggested me to use 1:3 belt drive (HTD or GT3) on those servos, because their nominal speed is 3000RPM, which is on 5mm ballscrews = 15m/min, which would destroy the...
  7. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

Why did you decide for those drives? I've bought BF30 from Bernardo, which seems to be very similar to PM30 and it lies in parts right now. I'm stuck on deciding on drive for it. Check my thread if...
  8. Re: New Build/PM30-MV Mill/Acorn/DMM DYN4-.75KW X/Y/Z SERVO/1.8KW DMM SERVO SPINDLE

Is there any news on the build? How are 0.75kW servos work on that machine?

Re: BF30 Servo vs. Hybrid Stepper vs Stepper

What do you guys think of this combo:

    3x direct drive 8Nm Closed-loop Leadshine 3phase "easy-servo" = stepper
    Leadshine Technology Co., Ltd.

    3x ES-DH2306 direct 230VAC Closed-Loop driver (no...

In case of belt, is 15mm or 20/25mm wide HTD belt with 5M pitch okay?

Re: BF30 Servo vs. Hybrid Stepper vs Stepper

    Hey!

Thank you for your input! I know there is limited resolution or accuracy to the machine, but with 4000steps/rev I was actually reading out this 8NM closed-loop stepper graph... ...

Re: BF30 Servo vs. Hybrid Stepper vs Stepper

Hmmm... I'm still in the quest for the best solution. As far as I know I don't want to run this machine over 2m/min or 80IPM due to the dovetail ways... Meaning with 5mm pitch ballscrews that's...

    Re: New DIY machine build

That's a fair point. However, I would like to design mounts and other stuff needed for them. I saw there is a really great range of NEMA34 choice... from 2Nm up to 14Nm. Hard to choose which is the...

    Re: New DIY machine build

Thank you so much Gerry for your reply!

Can anyone recommend which steppers (size Nema34) should I choose for specific axis? I saw there are quite a few to consider, also servos this size.

    Re: New DIY machine build

I have a few questions for you guys:
    - Should I consider NEMA34 stepper with BRAKE for Z axis?

    - Do you think for X axis are 20mm linear guides enough or should I choose 25mm?
    - Is the...
