Unbelievable. Now I understand why you choose that giant servo.

Re: Lathe Conversion, PM1228 to CNC

That spindle looks very easy to change chucks. I wish mine had one of these.

    Very nice and clean build.

    Re: BT30 Spindle

    Hi Ian,

I didn't touch the spindle since then. I'm a little busy these days. I'll keep you posted tho.

    Thanks,
    Suat

Poll: Re: What machines are in your home hobby shop?

BF20L mill, Sieg C6 lathe and a CNC router. Oh and a bench drill, Tig welder, and some hand tools.

    Re: Concrete VMC

That servo looks huge. I believe you can use any type of tool with it. I can use a 40mm 4 blade face cutting tool with my 1.3kw servo.

    Re: Hertz spindles from Turkey

I'm from Turkey but I don't own a Hertz spindle. However I know people remove the integrated fan and put a computer fan to the top of the housing to have a quiet spindle.

    The Hertz main facility...
  9. Re: Planning to build a spindle for router and small mill. What tooling?

    Thanks Ian.

The tool holder in the photo has a pocket for spindle dog. Does the spindle have dogs? I'll be surprised if it has.
  10. Re: Planning to build a spindle for router and small mill. What tooling?

    Hi Ian,

What type of a pull stud gripper has your ISO20 spindle? Jaw type or ball type?
  11. Planning to build a spindle for router and small mill. What tooling?

    Hi,

Main idea is to build a spindle (simply a smaller version of the BT30 I've built before) for router and smaller milling machines. This spindle will be as lightweight as possible but robust,...

    Re: Concrete VMC

This is going to be a nice machine.

Is the 12k servo you ordered for the spindle?

    Re: BT30 Spindle

By the way, the noise in the video comes from the temporary table (0.4mm steel sheet). Also the machine is not bolted down to the bench.

    Re: BT30 Spindle

If I'll to this I'll put the original head back and do the job with it.

This is a test cut by the way. It did a good job with 10mm 4 flute en mill. Cutting a 12mm (more or less) slot on 6065...

    Re: BT30 Spindle

I guess I better make a slot and add dogs to the spindle. Can a diamond grinding wheel male a 10mm slot (is 10mm good?) on hardened steel? A wheel like the one...

    Re: BT30 Spindle

Another question about spindle dog. I didn't add a spindle dog because I don't have a machine to cut the slots. Is it necessary? Especially when using large diameter milling or facing tools?

    Re: BT30 Spindle

Yes, good catch. Other than that it works but I don't know. I'll will probably have to make a new cylinder later because I just don't feel OK with it.

Anyway, do I need to break-in the AC spindle...

    Re: BT30 Spindle

    Hey Ian,

Didn't have much time for the spindle until today. Here's it is.

There is still things needs to be done:
    - I need to move the electronics to the cabinet
    - I need to figure how to...

    Re: BT30 Drawbar Rookie Question

Some have spiral coolant flow channels machined on the exterior wall of the housing. But, in my opinion cooling is not that necessary unless the spindle runs at very high speed like 15k and over....
  23. Re: My little Ibanez S470DXQM neck repair project

Today I epoxied the surface of the headstock. Now I need to wait some days to get the epoxy fully hardened. Then I'll sand the rest of the neck and apply a clear satin finish.
