There are a number of Chinese suppliers, or Chinese suppliers with UK shipping addresses that sell such a thing on ebay.
I bought a similar machine last year and have significantly upgraded it since. Assuming you are using it as you received it, then your problem is almost certainly dirty mirrors, or more likely, the...
I haven't used them myself, as I'm a hobby user with a very ugraded £500 Chinese A4 laser, but RS Laser - Laser Cutting and Engraving Machines might be worth a look - they appear to have happy...
I had a similar problem with plywood. I eventually traced the problem to be dirty optics, but not the lens or mirrors - inside the end of the laser tube itself! Smoke from the ply was escaping into...
If the material is being cut on the underside by reflections off the table then that suggests that you have the power setting way too high (or the speed to feedrate too slow). Suggest that you try...
I haven't tried it myself yet, but have a look at this: Laser Marking with Moly | Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories
Hi
I have a cheap Chinese laser cutter. It was sold as a 40W unit.
I need to change the power supply. I see that the 60W PSU is capable of a higher voltage and current than the 40W PSU.
If I...
i have a cheap 40w laser and I replaced the moshi software and control board with a simple stepper driver board and linuxcnc driven from the parallel port.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
It turns out after much investigation, that it was a problem with the power supply. Specifically, one of the wires to the safety interlock connector was not...
I have a cheap 40W CO2 laser engraver that has been working fine until today.
On full power, the ammeter which is in series with the tube, used to show about 15mA when the laser was firing. Now...
My wife likes anything that I make out of 3mm clear acrylic because it provides function whilst being almost invisible. I personally hate working with the stuff due to the variability in its...
I've cut an interlocking candle holder out of 3mm ply using a jigsaw type interlock (picture here). There is a little movement in the two pieces, but I would expect some movement in a wooden jigsaw;...
I can't answer the question that you asked, but you may be interested in this link: Laser engrave metal with a low power laser. Perhaps you could get away with a less powerful laser.
Here is a link to a photo of the table that I made (I couldn't manage to upload it here, even though I reduced the resolution):pinbed.jpg photo by ebayshmebay | Photobucket

Nice products Dave if you can afford them.
My homemade one cost £16 for components from ebay and a Sunday afternoon in labour.
that's pretty much what I did, but I used M3 and I added dome head nuts on top for the material to rest on. They have a very small contact area, but are not sharp so will not damage the material.
I...
I made mine by just bolting some pieces of 12mm angle aluminium to a 6mm alumninium sheet (2mm would do), then adding 6mm threaded rod to each corner to make the whole table height adjustable. Make...
I use thermal paper (fax roll) kept taught across the front of the mirror by a laser cut plywood ring with a small piece cut out of it so that it is springy.
The last time that I cut fabric, I had a knife edge table, so the fabric kept sagging between the knifes. I considered keeping it taught by adding magnets, but unfortunately, my table was aluminium...
I made my own knife edge table using 12mm angle aluminium. It worked well, but cutting plywood, I did get lines on the back of the material where the (relatively) thick angle edges touched it.
I've...
I've just discovered "ROR Residual Oil Remover lens cleaning fluid" (cheapest supplier seems to be ebay).
My question is: has anyone used this stuff and if so, does it provide any benefits over...
I've been happily cutting plywood (cheap) and acrylic (nice, but expensive). So I started searching for other things that I could safely cut, but at very little cost. The pound shop, or cheap...
I agree entirely with ozstockman. My knife edge table leaves thin lines on the back of the material, especially if it's dirty from previously cutting plywood. A pin table would be better. I've...
It sounds to me like TurbineJesse has just "thrown the gauntlet down" to you xairflyer! Go on; add a bolt on laser to your CNC.
Hi Matt
Possible issues with moving the laser around are:
1) The tube if physically quite large.
2) It NEEDS to be cooled, so you would also need to route the water cooling pipes around your axes....
Hi. I have a cheep and cheerful 40W CO2 laser from China. It will zip through 3mm birch plywood on about 40% power at 400mm/min, if that gives you any guide to required power.
The mirrors and...
Quick update; I've modified it so that you can select shapes, then right click, then select either 'cut first' or 'cut last'. This means that any shape can be put into any one of three groups: 'cut...
