Re: Am I jinxed? Power supply woes...

    Al, what is an SMPS?

I would be interested in making a linear PS. Any good articles on how to build them. I know Probotix sells some components for making them.

PS. the Ebay seller was extremely helpful and responsive. I do not wish to impugn his good name by sharing it here.

Re: Am I jinxed? Power supply woes...

Yes, It would be rather hard to mess up the A/C side wiring. lol Especially since the wires in my power cable are color coded. I also only connected the Gecko with the power off and I double-checked...

Re: Am I jinxed? Power supply woes...

    Genssi?

Green to ground, White to "N" and Black to "L".

The first one powered up, but it killed my Gecko before it committed suicide. My Gecko would work on my other 24V power supply, but two...

Am I jinxed? Power supply woes...

Very bummed. I bought a power supply off Ebay to attempt to upgrade the power of my milling machine's stepper motors. The first one I got gave me smoke and sparks shortly after I connected it to my...

Re: Is my G540 working correctly

I know that much. :) I took my G540 apart yesterday and found the BoB to be fully functional but two of the G250x driver boards were unresponsive even though one had the LED lit up.

    No matter now...

    Re: G540 / G250X drivers not working...

I hear ya. I am trying to develop a standard way of wiring all my motors so I can make adaptors for my Gecko and my Probotix drivers. Gives me something to do while the Gecko is at the doctor! :)

    G540 / G250X drivers not working...

Ok, I just purchased a Gecko G540 and today I got my motors wired (with the correct resistors, etc) so I could hook them up and try it out. I got a crappy power supply from an Ebay seller that I...
  13. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

Honestly, you can be pretty far off on your tram and still finish an AR lower pretty nicely. The key is to make sure the distance from the front of the Fire Control pocket to the Bolt Stop slot is...
  14. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

Sorry for my comments too Bjones. I was a bit out of sorts yesterday. :)
  15. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

I agree. I used mine very little before I converted it to CNC but it worked well in stock form once it was tuned up a little. I often wish I had a second mill to use for making mods to my CNC mill....
  16. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't know you owned the forum. I mistook you for a troll. My bad.
  17. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

Also, the HF mill is a nice unit for those of us who are financially challenged and enjoy a project. :)
  18. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

Yes, he commented on a thread from 2012.

Let me guess that you would also be butthurt if he had started a new thread asking the same questions someone else already did...

  19. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

BTW... I have finished 2 80% lowers myself. They are both built now and in regular use!
  20. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

I just did a stiffening project on my Harbor Freight X2 yesterday. I posted a thread on it, but it's not that great. I want to try it before shelling out for a new column and base, especially since I...

Re: Problems with Belt Drive Conversion

Anyone know where a guy can get pulleys to fit the stock X2 motor shafts? I have had zero luck trying to find 9mm bores with 5mm keyways. I could just buy a conversion kit, but what fun is that?

    Replacing motor boards

I saw a reference to a KBLC-19PM board for the X2 mills that will wake up the motor. Since I have already switched to steel gears and intend to go belt drive asap anyway, I would be very interested...
  23. Re: Does the LMS solid column conversion kit make a big difference?

M5 drill and tap should run you under $10 at your local hardware store. Use a hand drill, preferably one with variable speed and simply use the holes in the box as a guide. Yes the two green wires...

    Fix for tramming issues?

Hello, I have been having serious problems lately with tramming with my X2 mini mill. I was on the verge of buying a new solid column and base from LMS, but thought I would give this a shot first.

  25. Re: Anyone tried using linear bearings?

Mine are little PCB drivers. I guess you can see them in the link...

I will research the Gecko drivers. I'm sick of crappy performance.
  26. Re: Anyone tried using linear bearings?

How big are your stepper motors? I am running a 400 in/oz on my X and 270 in/oz on the other two axes. I have a counterweight arrangement for my Z. I bought a kit from Probotix for it. I have a 24V...
  27. Anyone tried using linear bearings?

    Hi,

I have a Harbor Freight X2 that I converted to stepper motor CNC operation a year or so ago. I haven't used it much because of constantly losing steps and scrapping my projects. I finally...
