Re: Getting Started BUilding a CNC Machine

James. This is a trade or hobby with a lot of moving parts. Reading about where to go or what to do with a new machine is daunting.

I see you refer to tolerances. What do you know about...
  2. Re: MAXNC-10 mini cnc mill software? pre year 2000 model

Sorry, Andrew is correct. I do have a few of the probes you refer to that cost 175+. On the the other hand what I mention can still be used but you will have to understand what opens and closes the...
  3. Re: MAXNC-10 mini cnc mill software? pre year 2000 model

A probe is just a simple electronic switch. Insulate a piece of drill rod in a holder, connect a wire to it from the input pin.

    Re: My DYNA-MYTE 3000 Revamping

Turbina, thanks for the reply and good work for those who can use it.
I no longer use Mach but would enjoy seeing anyone implement the bidirectional macro as we know it must work.
    I have seen a few...

Re: Backplate adapter for 4" chuck

Both routes would be ok depending on your skill level. I would think you could skim cut the prebuilt one on your lathe to correct most issues.

    Back to making chips! WooHoo
  8. Re: Tram of my mini mill and flycutting. What am I missing?

You are getting there. On the other hand, one decent little crash and you get to do it again. I have lessened my desire for perfect flycut parts on a small Chinese mill and my amateur skills ;-) A...

    Re: My DYNA-MYTE 3000 Revamping

Is the tool changer bidirectional as it was originally? I havent seen anyone disengage the pawl and spin the other way. Most if not all macros I have seen over rotate and then back up against the...
  10. Re: Labvolt 5600 cnc d&m computing chopper drive issue 048-700115

Hoping the broken trace is the issue.
  11. Re: Unusual slop in Denford Micromill/Sherline 5400 Vertical Mill

No thrust bearing or nut. Loosen that coupler and engage the screw further in and retighten. The older Sherline CNC were similar and needed babysitting, the newer stepper housings have the bearing.
  12. Re: Tram of my mini mill and flycutting. What am I missing?

Or simply put your indicator on a longer arm to see the area to correct. Buy a piece of granite floor tile at your big box store, the thickness is very uniform as they use optical quality grinding....

What happens when you plug the Z stepper into the X drive? Run smooth?

    Re: Raising the dead

You can move the ballscrew by hand, stepper attached and powered up? That shouldnt be the case.
  15. Re: Buying SIEG SC4 LATHE (M3, CNC ready). Good idea?

Little lathes can do plenty of great work. Cutting steel or deep threads with CNC is a no brainer. It just keeps repeating the sequence as many times as needed ;-) Congrats. I have machined a few...
  16. Re: Spindle Turning off or not moving- Prolight 3000

You are checking it static with no load. I suspect the pot is burnt up. Try a new one as a test. Cheap and three wires. Or you might be able to milk it with some tuner spray. Try to clean the pot....

    Re: Universal ATC Kit

There is a setting within Mach that will allow it to remember its position during a shutdown and subsequent reboot. However to trust it for the savings of a minute would be foolish.

Nice video and detail on your build.
  20. Re: Advice on closed loop stepper unit please

You are running a stepper and your belief is it has too much torque? Is it missing steps? Have you tried different microstepping values?

Sherlines will surprise you once you get the feel for them.
  22. Re: Spindle Turning off or not moving- Prolight 3000

Even though you tested it, I still suspect the potentiometer.
In my experience on Dyna machines, the switch from CNC to manual usually only involves the ground.

Re: Hoss's G0704 - I need help with a new WEIRD problem, HOSS you still around Help

I had a similar issue on my DM3000 lathe. It has a 6 tool changer. For ages it was spot on. It started doing just as you described and I could never find the cause. However I was running Mach3 via...
