Re: Torus Pro As A "Production" Machine

Chances are the acme from McMaster is keystone. All of the full length rods I have bought from them had a keystone logo stamped on one end.

    Re: best stepper for G540?

Surprisingly, I don't think there's anything new or better than the 381 Oz motors from keling in the link I posted. They are designed to handle the full force of the g540.

Looks like PD015 decel time is what you want to adjust.
  4. Sticky: Re: WidgitMaster's Largest Steel Router Table Project 9ft x 5ft x 8" Water Cooled Spi

If it's anything like the Hitachi you should be able to brake it a bit without an external resistor. I put the biggest tool I had in mine and kept adjusting the spool down speed until it didn't fault...

    Re: X61500GT - New CNC-Carving Router

Best way would be to clone the hard drive to a fresh one every so often. I use macrium reflect free, works great. If the hard drive fails, pop the backup in and turn the computer on and your back to...

    :)

Tram gauges don't need to be super fancy, should be easy enough to build your own, here's mine, it's way more sensitive than it needs to be for a router.

    Re: X61500GT - New CNC-Carving Router

    Same Dylan :)

Your right, it does look tricky to shim your spindle, but should be possible. Pry the clamping part of the mount apart a bit, insert shims, clamp tight, check with an indicator.you...
  8. Re: I make license plate art - can I use a machine?

And for the router, with the right bit and setup, the paint should hold up well. Problem is the better you hold the material down, the better the cut quality and bit life. If you are decent with CAD...
  9. Re: I make license plate art - can I use a machine?

Plasma would char the paint to oblivion.

I think a nibbler would be the way to go http://youtu.be/E1JALyXKvrc

Many different models and styles out there.
  10. Re: I make license plate art - can I use a machine?

If you make a lot of identical pieces, a router would work good, if you are mainly just doing one off cuts, doing it by hand will be faster.

CNC for one off parts could mean an hour + of drawing...

    Re: X61500GT - New CNC-Carving Router

Every machine needs the spindle trammed from time to time, pretty normal to be honest. I use some old engine bearing shim stock, aluminum sheet ranging from .0002" and up to tram my spindle (between...

  13. Sticky: Re: Finally, the new spindle has arrived!

I placed the dust collector outside of the shop and plumbed 4" ducting through the wall, it's nice and quiet depending on what I'm cutting. Big plus is not having fine dust particles floating around...
  14. Sticky: Re: WidgitMaster's Largest Steel Router Table Project 9ft x 5ft x 8" Water Cooled Spi

I run 50:50 distilled water and kid/pet safe antifreeze. It's still as bright green as the day I installed the spindle :)
  15. Sticky: Re: Finally, the new spindle has arrived!

A 2.2 kw spindle needs a cooling system to deal with around 200 Watts of waste heat as far as I can remember, which is about the same amount as a decent CPU on todays PC's.

    My little used pump and...

The model is really easy to draw, did one from Baltic birch ply years ago, left the ball attached to the bottom though.

Re: Chinese Ball Screws Stuck in Customs

I had the same thing happen twice with UPS and bearings from China marked as bearings. Some things we import do get taxed. They should start marking them as leadscrews.

  24. Re: stepper - weak with Gecko G202.. just me or is it ok?

Vfd driven 3 phase induction motor in the 2+ HP range comes to mind, since you don't really need fine control over position, and the speed, acceleration and reversing could all be done with an...
  25. Re: stepper - weak with Gecko G202.. just me or is it ok?

Looks completely normal to me. If you need to move a 60lb load at a reasonable speed your going to need a MUCH bigger motor. What you have would move a 60lb gantry driven by a leadscrew with a lot of...

A 220v 2.2 kw spindle will draw close to 6 amps at full load from the inverter.

The VFD will pull around 15 amps at 220v single phase to output 6 amps at 220v 3 phase, roughly.

Just noticed the 1.5kw spindles you mentioned. Unless you run a dedicated 20+amp 110v circuit for one of them, I wouldn't trust it.
