Well, we started tearing down the printer and the steppers are marked 1.7v Hmm. Might just sell the steppers as repair parts on eBay and buy what we want.

I have access to a shopbot, so milling wood or expanded PVC is pretty easy. Also have a vary large commercial laser printer with quite a few nice stepper motors that I'm about to disassemble.
