Thanks, - Yeah, I was toying with doing that anyway (till I saw the price of the stuff!) but much easier I guess, even if it hurts a bit at the start! - That and the crucible will be the main cost,...
Hi,
Although I built a LPG furnace of my own design a few years back which was quite successful and I did a few pours with it, - Circumstances at that time , however were not so good and I ended up...
Hi, I would like to retrofit an old (1980 something) 'H Square' engraver which I purchased a while ago. It is quite a robust machine but the electronics will definitely need upgrading to make it...
[QUOTE I do believe there is a setup file for Mach (XML) already done for the Gecko G540, this should save you some time.[/QUOTE]
Thanks, I came across this file but didn't download it but I have...
Thank you very much for the reply,
I have already started delving into the ways and means of setting up, I see it will take a lot of time for a non Computer/CNC person as I am to be able to absorb...
No takers? I thought this would be an easy one for someone to solve! - guess I'll have to try the yahoo forum, - it's a bit harder to use but often full of info too,
I shelved my Gecko 540 project a couple of years ago due to hospitalisation and a long recovery, - I felt that I knew a little about computers and electronics but here I am, stuck at the first...
You are neither, you are a REALIST.
I was talking to a guy just before the millenium who was shaking in his shoes about what was going to happen and i told him that there was one thing he could...
I had forgotten all about this question! - the thread is even older now!
No, I didn't get much joy at all, then I had a few health problems ( which I've now recovered from) and after having canned...
I don't want this question to become monotonous, but....I have just received my G540 and had a look at it this evening and it appears to me that I have received a Rev3 version.(according to the green...
Thank you for that! - good clear answer!
The price is a little more than I expected, - but it does seem to be a popular choice of program.
Seems I've got everything there without the need for...
Still haven't sorted out the single line fonts though, - they all seem to be capable of using TTF but there are only a couple of these that are actually useable for engraving and even these have...
One thing I did forget is that I downloaded (and bought)a small program a while ago called DXF Tool by Cand CNC, this sits inside Corel and improves circular cuts immensely, using bezier curves...
Thanks, at the moment though, I'm really needing "stick" or single line fonts - they appear to be a little hard to come by (from first impressions).
I am going to use a Xylotex controller with Mach3...
I am looking for suitable engraver software, - Has anyone here had any experience with the 2L engraver software?
I did look at Bobcam, but this is not dedicated engraver/signwriting software,...
Hi, I've got the licensed version of Mach 3 intended for output to the Xylotex 4axis driver board which I will be using to retrofit an old H-Square engraver.
I also am using a Roland CS20...
I'm pushing 63 and all I want to do is learn something about CNC controllers, and not debate PC (ie political correctness) matters.
Dont be so sensitive! - BTW, I'm not totally insensitive to what...
I have an old version of Corel Draw, (version 6 from memory) but I guess that won't be any good, so I need to look for a 13 or greater??
If I download your trial version, will I be able to test it...
Hi, I will be using Mach3 /2 Mill, and I hope to use it on an engraving machine (as well as my mill) with a Xylotex controller.
There seems to be a host of programs out there to convert TTF to DXF...
Have any of you guys tried this yet? - I'm toying with the idea of trying it in my big, old, and redundant microwave.
It works perfectly but my wife wants me to throw it out! - so if any of you can...
Yes, I agree with all you say, but in a small workshop ( where I would basically be "pottering",) the carbide tips would be a bit hard to resist when it comes to removing metal in a hurry (roughing)...
It's a pity that I live in the South Pacific, otherwise I could have taken advantage of your sharpening service, I think the postage costs would be horrendous!
No doubt there will be a host of...
Thanks for all the answers,
I think maybe I'll review my money saving options and try that sharpening thing again! I was sure that the coatings were a bit thicker than .0001", but that doesn't...
The point I was making was that the carbide itself does not actually seem to be capable of doing any cutting, and I have noticed that when the Titanium Nitride (or whatever) coating wears off, it's...
After having had a discussion in another thread on the merits (and failings) of coated carbide cutters versus HSS, I really can't understand why the metal used for the cutter underneath the coating...
Good simple answer! ( despite all the words). (wedge)
GiBBSMAN,
You probably are correct, - but to say that carbide is the only way to go ....... ! Old school isn't necessarly bad school, and after a couple of thousand washers, I wonder which method...
I agree with both answers above.
In a situation like this the good old fashioned cobalt high speed steel cutter will not chip. - If properly lubricated, it will last a long time, and can be...
