  1. Re: Best place to buy good value (i.e. lower price good quality) CNC router bits on w

A location would help as I assume shipping costs are an issue if you are trying to save money.
  2. Al 3003 sheet metal milling suggestions?

I've had good results milling 6061 Al but wanted to mill some 3003 sheet stock (40 and 63 mil). I'm using 3003 because it bends fairly well and 6061 surely doesn't. It cuts but I'm getting a lot of...

    Re: Arduino distance detector

Google is your friend. Lots of sample code that is specific to a given sensor out there.

    Re: Power supply wiring problem

Hmmm, that takes me to a page that wants to sell me the domain name.
  5. Re: directionalized electrical noise detector

If in your shoes, I'd probably go on a program of tightening down every electrical screw connection, make sure you have proper grounding everywhere (and make sure it's a star configuration),...
  6. Re: Could a defunct flatbed printer be repurposed into a CNC?

    I'd guess he's near chicago.

Probably do ok for a laser. Maybe a vinyl cutter. I suspect at least the control electronics would need to be replaced. Maybe the drivers could be reused.

Re: DIY spring loaded engraving tool holder

Yeah. illustrates the drawback of just using amazon and ebay for shopping. I have to admit, I always go to amazon first because their delivery is sooo much faster and, USUALLY,they have close to the...

    Re: Fusion 360 multple setups

I'm no F360 pro but I just create two different setups in Manufacture. One for the top and one for the bottom. Then, I create my various tool paths under each setup. I add two "holders" to the...

    Re: Limit switch setup, grbl/candle.

It looks like candle has an unlock button which should allow you to get past the initial locked state.

And, yes, longer term a mega is a better choice but I've run some pretty big G-Code files...

    Re: Limit switch setup, grbl/candle.

GRBL is the same on every controller which are all basically some form of Arduino. Start here. Personally, I would just get an Uno, a screw shield and use external drivers. Super low cost solution....

Re: DIY spring loaded engraving tool holder

Well, it WAS $89. I'm pretty sure this thread caused the vendors to jack the price. 109 to 139 now. Probably will fall back in a few weeks.

Re: 1.5m by 1.5m cnc at rigidity

You're getting responses that factor in the most extreme part of your request. If you just left it at mdf, you'd get a different response.

Re: 30x30" open source CNC machine design

It sounds like you are already sold on the design. You should go for it instead of arguing the points. Then report back what you learned.

Re: Looking for a direction to proceed

A couple of years ago, I was where you are. Wanted a CNC machine for mostly woodworking and other non-metal projects. I chose a small CBeam machine for the reasons you listed above. It has about a...

Re: 30x30" open source CNC machine design

That machine looks like it has serious flex issues. Especially on the X-axis beam. If you want to get into CNC cheap, look at the CBeam machines like the workbee. Still has some flex but more...

Re: Looking for feedback on a build idea

As other have said, the CBeam machine is truly the weak link here. I have a small one and it has a fair amount of deflection. You can get decent results if you run with a shallow DOC but that makes...

Re: Options for vac table pump

This looks interesting. I want to build a vac-table and these might be a solution. But, how does it hold up in a "sawdusty" environment? I see 2 potential issues - gasket material and valves. In...
  18. Re: GRBL sends ERROR:33 when CHECKING generated GCode.

So, it's something in the G-Code. I'd try to figure out the offending line, track it back to the specific tool path and then the specific feature in your model.

By the way, if you have a spare...

Re: TTL Serial to Step/Dir module

Actually, I'd use a Nano, you can program it via USB and then use the TTL serial interface. GRBL works fine on it. Cheap and available everywhere. Screw terminal boards are available for it.

    Re: TB6560 and arduino disconnecting

One possibility is the USB cable - you might be picking up interference. My Uno barfs when I power up my GRBL based mill. An RFI choke might help. Try routing the USB cable away from the motors,...
  21. Re: 3018 Woodpecker CNC >> Initial setup troubles

It's not 100% clear to me what you have. I'm guessing your machine has the limit switch at the top the Z axis. If not it should be there. I'm also guessing that you have mechanical limit switches -...
  22. Re: 3018 Woodpecker CNC >> Initial setup troubles

Alarm 4 is a probe fail. You sure it's an alarm?

Your config has hard limits turned on. Are you hitting your limit switch?

Yes. Likely the case. However, it is good marketing to hook people starting out, with free. Thus, most have generous educational discounts (or free). The start-up exclusion is another example and...
