    Re: Tormach YouTuber's Unite!

    I think so..

We've got a 'Mini ME' mist eliminator on one of my machines.. The name is far more clever than the engineering, it works great when it works, but that's virtually never..

    Re: Tormach YouTuber's Unite!

    Oh no doubt.

I don't think folks truly appreciate the mess that even 100psi coolant creates hitting a 2.5" dia tool holder turning at 6000rpm makes, let alone the CLOUD your shop becomes when its...

Not a tormach, doesn't belong in this thread.

Giving all your videos thumbs down!

    Re: PM-45 CNC Conversion (RF45)

Great info man, exactly what I was curious about. I'm assuming they referred you to a bank that does capital lending (GE Capital or similar?)

The three year business will kill a new machine for me...

Re: Torus Pro As A "Production" Machine

I think i'd read that previously and was mistakenly thinking this WAS the new iteration, and found myself thinking "that doesnt seem much better than the last time I saw it.."

    It doesn't look THAT...

Re: CRASHED: Head Assembly Bolt Torque

There's probably a parameter for excess on the spindle drive, which could be used to throw a fault in such a case..

Easy mistake to make; even easier when the job comes back around and the...

    Re: PM-45 CNC Conversion (RF45)

I'm hopeful that you'll share some of that process; things like what the financier (assuming you're not sitting on a pile of cash) wanted to see, etc.. I'm always a bit apprehensive to find that...

Re: Torus Pro As A "Production" Machine

Its starting to look good, but man, that transfer arm looks wobbly. What's up with that?
  14. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

His machine simply requires 3-phase @208-240, it contains all the necessary transformers to provide proper voltage to it's systems.. He's set with the RPC he purchased..
  15. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

I'm actually curious how long the payback would be, now.. the cost difference isn't anywhere near as enormous as you make it out to be.

After doing some reading, though, I will say I was...
  16. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

It makes a BIG difference in sanity.. I recently staggered my shift from everyone else here, to get one peaceful day a week without all the noise and interruptions. Silence is golden.
  17. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

Why is a digital phase converter not a viable option? I've never looked at the payback from energy savings, so perhaps you'll never make the money back on the initial investment directly.. but in all...
  18. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

I'm probably incorrect here, because it's pretty far out of my wheelhouse; I've always understood that's effectively what the 'digital' variety phase converters are. And the only 'reason' not to is...
  19. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

So much more wrong with running the axes with a VFD than just that.. :)

Won't find many (any) Fanuc's capable of single phase directly, and converting it would be both much more involved and...
  20. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

Phase converter, precisely. Available in two basic styles, static and rotary. Both have pro's and con's..

No need to run at reduced horsepower, though the phase converter will consume additional...

  22. Re: Anyone Machine Stainless on Their Torus Pro?

    How'd it go?
  23. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

    Very confusing statement..

He's already got a lathe, which is equipped with a Fagor control. It probably has canned roughing cycles, but appears to be a thoroughly aggravating control to operate...
  24. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

HSMworks does include a generic Fagor post, though its designed as a milling post and would likely need modified to work.

Ray can attest to the awesomeness of their post processor system.

    Its...
  25. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

If its running hard enough to be draining $0.80/hr in power costs, its likely making someone around a $150/hr shop rate :)

Most turning CAM license the same modules, and as such produce identical...

Re: Torus Pro As A "Production" Machine

Usually, you have available a T# code, which sets which tool to select from the tool changer. You then have an offset table with both H# (tool length offset) and D# (tool diameter offset) which can...
  27. Re: Another Mill - Haas, Another Tormach, or a Novakon?

The number one reason relatively new commercial machines get sold is the company that bought them going bankrupt.. Start getting into older stuff, and they've outlived their service life.

    Quite...

Congrats on the machine sale, going to miss this thread, but it was quite crucial in my ultimate decision to learn from your experience and just skip this class of machine.. Lol.

Re: Torus Pro As A "Production" Machine

After posting I basically came to that conclusion. Definitely one of the benefits of using more open hardware. Most other MTB's steer very clear from firmware updates.. :)
