    Re: My first CNC build

Light isn't necessarily good. I was told when designing my machine that having some weight on the gantry was a very good thing. So I didn't worry about weight and instead built for rigidity. My...

    Makita RT0700C Air Deflector

If any of you guys use the Makita RT0700C as a spindle I've designed an air deflector for it that can be 3D printed. Here's a link...https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3634589#.

Re: 2nd Post-Gantry goes out of square

Are you sure your gantry is rigid? Looks like it could use some bracing! If it's square before cutting and not after, then it would seem to me that the process of moving the gantry or z axis is...
  7. Re: What kind of file extension for image to be engraved into wood?

Are you engraving just lines or are you doing 3D work? You're workflows for each will be vastly different.
  8. Re: How is everyone building a DIY CNC router system that maintains cutting tolerance

Actually...my setup is simple...a lot more simple than what most of you use. My controller is an Arduino Uno which only has ports for an X, Y and Z. The two drivers for the motors that move the...
  9. Re: How is everyone building a DIY CNC router system that maintains cutting tolerance

That's how I do it...both drivers have the same signal source.
  10. Re: My First Desktop CNC router; Shapeoko or Stepcraft, Or Which

Toy...no...they're not toys. They're capable of doing the job if you machine within their 'abilities'. Many folks use the Shapeoko machine for sign production for example. You can mill aluminum...

Nice...will double as a sweet billiards table when you're not CNC'ing!
  12. Re: Blackfoot 4x8 plywood made CNC router .. $1000 used..... opinions?

$500 sounds good...but only if you completely believe you can get the machine up and running. I designed and built my machine and I know it like the back of my hand. But you don't have that...
  13. Re: Blackfoot 4x8 plywood made CNC router .. $1000 used..... opinions?

Good question...I paid about $1,200 in total for the MDF machine I built from scratch. Everything was new...motors, controller, etc. Motors would probably be labeled as low end...but they work.

Re: One more DIY first born CNC

In terms of your X axis...I did something similar with the round supported rail, but my beam (although made of MDF) is a torsion box and it's super rigid. With your gantry sides so high you might...

    Re: Stiffening 50x100 extrusions

That's interesting! One of the advantages of the construction extrusion is having places to attach t-nuts.

Re: Fixed position Dust shoe with ATC

I too have punted...but I have a new 3D printer in the house and a floating (fixed height) dust shoe is going to be one of my first big projects for the printer.
  22. Re: where to buy an electronics enclosure box

I repurposed an old computer enclosure. Drill out the rivets of the things you don't need. Was strong and had plenty of room.

    Re: Feeback on cnc design

Here's what I use and it's as simple as it gets. Use Inkscape to convert the dxf to an svg. SVG is the native output of Inkscape. Then use http://www.makercam.com to convert the svg drawing to...
  24. Re: Going into additive vs subtractive manufacturing...

  25. Re: Bosch Colt 1hp palm router...spindle equivalent?

  26. Re: Bosch Colt 1hp palm router...spindle equivalent?

I'm kind of in the same boat...I have the Makita RTC0701C as a spindle. With the exception of hurricane force winds coming out of the bottom of it blowing chips everywhere, it's been great. I've...

...received my 3D printer yesterday. Tronxy P803E...onsale at 3Dprintersonlinestore for $160. Gotta learn to think additive rather than subtractive...LOL.
