If I went with an extra motor, I was planning on using another drive as well. I was actually hoping it would allow me to use smaller steppers which would also permit less powerful(read cheaper)...
I asked virtually the same question: question:http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33507
I now have received my order from sdpi now though. As I have asked before, would using two ~200 to...
I actually have ordered some delrin from ebay. It was 10 pieces 13" inches long 1.5" X 1.5". Including shipping it was $30, so I think I got a good deal. As far as the lead nuts, I'm going to try to...
I bet it was tough writing the G-code to pull all those feathers off.
I had that same trouble when I was making some parts for my ultralight. I ordered some delrin of ebay and I guess I'll search around for cutting techniques before I make my lead nuts.
Though I'm not building the belt drive table, I have the plans and I believe it has two fixed belts on each side of the table. There is a motor on the back of the gantry(opposite side of the...
sdpi is not much better. I ordered Feb. 25th and for the dual leadscrew table and they just told me the pulley that is on backorder isn't expected to be delivered until April 15th. I'm thinking of...
Go to the Hobart Weld Talk forum and do a search. They had a link to by one of the carbide metal cutting blades for around $40. I think it is Bullet Industries that is selling the blade.
I think you'd have a lot of interest. Most of the steppers I've considered aren't being fully utilized using the available drives barring the Gecko's.
I'm not planning on doing it, I was just responding to the other post. I did read somewhere on here where someone is offering mini mills(or at least frames) made of some kind of concrete polymer...
I'm building the dual lead screw motor and I am overthinking it like I always do things, plus my order form sdp-si seems to be slow in getting processed. How would it be to use two motors vs. the...
I've been on here following your build. I kind of wish I had decided to build the belt drive table, but I'll stick with the dual lead screw and see how it goes. I've started mine and I am using 3"...
What about building up a fiberglass table and then milling it flat with the router?
Hope that doesn't sound too stupid.
If you're looking for acme screws as well, at least check out use-enco.com .
They have 6ft acme screws for $6.99. That is 1/2" 10tpi. If I saw correctly on reidtool.com, they were $45.00 apiece....
I've seen on this forum where others have done it. I think one concern is that outside of the cutting area, the MDF will be higher than what you mill off. It could cause problems if your workpiece...
If I'm understanding you correctly, the couple looks to be a Lovejoy type coupler. If it is, you can just buy a 1/4" bore-spider-1/2" bore combo. Total cost about $5 or $6. You can get them from...
Maybe I'll try the UHMW to make sure I can produce a good lead nut, then do them in delrin if the UHMW wears out.
I want to make my own acme lead nuts, am I correct choosing delrin for these?
I am building the dual leadscrew machine out of steel. I'm hoping it will be rigid enough warrant using bigger steppers on the x/y, and just using the recommended motor on the z axis. Will I face...
I've pretty much decided to go with 1/2" 10tpi acme lead screw on my x and y axes(I think that's plural for axis), so I was wondering about the leadscrew for my Z axis. Should I just stick with the...
I building from the Solsylva plans and was wondering about using different size motors for the XYZ. Would there be any benefit to using a larger motor on the X axis since it drives two lead screws?...
VGER,
You must do exactly what I used to do. I worked at Guardian Glass in Richburg,SC. I ran the cutting machine and we made glass the exact way you described.
One thing about it, I don't believe it'll take a real heavy duty machine to cut glass. I know you'll still be concerned with accuracy, but you shouldn't have to worry about getting good speeds.
I don't what router you have, but I'm currently building the Solsylva. I'm not concerned with adding a 4th right now, but I had already considered the idea of adding exactly what your are talking...
I was actually referring to the torque/gear ratio aspect of it. Basically I'd be using the gear ratio of the 5/16" threaded rod but I'd have the ACME screw TPI/Diameter. It seems like it would lose...
As I have posted in another thread, I am considering using acme screws for my Solsylva build and someone recommended Dumpster AB lead nuts. I looked them up and it doesn't appear there is a...
If I were to get the 1/2 10tpi acme and get them turned down to fit the 8mm id bearings, this would allow me to use the original gear sizes. How would it run driving the bigger screw with the small...
Do a search for Coogrrr. He's building the belt drive table with some modifications/alterations.
I'm with you on that. I'm primarily building this thing as a learning experience; I don't really have a goal as to what I'm going to make with it. That's why I figured I would try to build my...
I am certainly going to try to build, probably Pminmo's boards. I am trying to arrange something with him now. I do have a resource I work with that could help me, especially with the testing part of...
