    Don't forget that metal spring are rated in lbs/inch so if you have a 25lb/inch spring and stretch it 4 inches you now have 100lbs of pull!!!

    How about reducing the diameter by one half and then putting all the mass at the outside. if done properly it should weigh the same but be much easier to handle and still give you the energy storage...

    Take a look at the Hiconn Integra. 24V I/O and lots of it. Analog I/O, ability to run a 0-10v, +-10, or Gcode axis spindle.
    Ethernet and a whole bunch of other nice things.

    IIRC Galil doesn't do...
