How about if it was poorly translated from Chinese? I.E. With great care do adjust gibs properly to ensure tolerences being optimum.

I find all the adjustments you have had to make somewhat troubling , especially with the lack of instructions that they need to be done and clear step by step directions. Did you ever work out...
What kind of repeatability do you get?

Taigs are cheap compared to a Tormach etc so I used to wonder if running a few of them verses one bigger mill would work out. I gave up on that idea, if all I can do is dream of getting a mill I...
Ubuntu has real time extensions baked in now? Its been several years since I played with Linux but back then you had to look find a distribution with rt built in.

I don't have the money or room for a Tormach but I have always thought if I could swing one I would mod it to be closed loop. I'm not sure which board I would use, I just don't feel safe open loop...
Let me see if I can word this properly. A FET is controlled by the voltage applied to the gate, not by the current flowing through it as in the base of a "normal" transistor. The voltage potential...
Freecad (freecadweb.org) Its free open source and I get free help on their forum. What's on my if I win power ball jackpot list would be solidworks.

That sounds like what I remember from a YouTube video, Keith Rucker's , I think, put up a while back about making a backplate for a lathe chuck. I got the program from freecadweb.org and watched...
Tanks! I stand corrected on Alibre. I also found links on here for freecad.org and libreweb.org. Both are available for Mac and PC and the look free if anyone else is looking. The freecad looks...
PDB is faster if you're hovering at the mill. If you're multitasking I think the ATC would be really nice to have.

As I understand it there was a version that you could use for free for home use without a time limit. Its not up on Geomagic's site. Is there a site or way to still get it or another CAD program I...
Sounds like a big advantage to high resolution rotary encoders over a linear scale . thanks for the info. It could come in real handy.

The only possible use for that high resolution that I can think of is it allows you to get an accurate velocity over a very small movement so you use that information to help plan other moves.

I have to agree with you there. I should go back and read this whole thread on the PC, I'm missing too much sneak reading it at work and in the car (parked).

The guys with lots of mounted tools I referred to had lots of drill chucks, taps, reamers, probes, center and edge finders, etc. 12 sounds like as a good number as any for a ATC.. Ha maybe you could...
How about the ducttap wit w pin hole or 12...

I don't know why someone thumbs down your video but you could put anything up there and get a thumbs down. If you can learn to just ignore them you will sleep better. Nice video. I wonder how...
I'm not a machinist but I am a electronics technician and its a good idea to have the cap rated for 1.5 to 2 times the voltage it's connected to. The 25v cap on a 25v line may well work under normal...
I will try not is ask safer questions going forward.

If I was close to buying I probably would have. I didn't know I was asking a competitor, I just wondered if there was a reason you couldn't upgrade the software. I saw a link somewhere on here after ...
I don't have a mill yet but have read about the old version of mach that Tormach uses is pretty old a few times. If ts a problem can't you just go buy the latest version on Mach 3?

Thanks. I will look around some more.

Thanks. Even the toolroom line is more than I need or can afford really. At least with Haas you can use their build a quote on the website and get an idea of cost. Anyone else have a comparable...
Do the toolroom mills and lathes have scales to know where the are (closed loop) or do the just assume x .xxx turns equals y.yyyy inches (open loop). I'm pretty sure the higher end Haas models all...
