Nothing to do with the brake!!! we narrowed it down to the transmission.
Only does it in hi gear not in low and is not belts slipping as it does it during zero return. Makes the noise every time...

There most probably was a plate riveted to the machine there some where..... but is no longer the case.
I have also tried looking in the manual but there is no mention of spindle...
It makes it when running a zero return at power off and start up, while the c axis returns to zero, every day I've heard it the guys in the shop just ignore the issue.

yes it is a Y axis machine
when we get up to turning 8 - 10" Dia's we usally run in to trouble as facing at X-0.0625 the drills/borring bars come very close if not hitting the chuck...

Thanks once again we had been using a mag base and dti to dial in the tool holders/ collet chucks I think our error was from the sag in the mag base we made up a puck to hold dti in soft...
