No worries,
to remove the feather edge ( razor sharp first thread ) you need to blunt/quick start the thread
you can do this as mentioned by using an external groove tool in a screw cutting...
I would say you need to put a quick/blunt start on the 1st thread.
do this with a grooving/part off off tip a little wider than the thread form - re run this tool in a s/cut cycle going 1 to 1.5...
yes i think your tool guy is rightn go to daewoo or agent to order.
shouldn't cost a lot - pretty basic items to make,

I think it would help if you had some tooling numbers etc..
Geof - totally agree! however paying an extra operator to face jobs is even more $$$
i have closed shop for thr christmas break, but when i go back i'll try and remember to pick up a component...
work is pretty varied, but mainly between 30 to 45 mm dia. - usually with a thro' hole.
so i do push the blade back to give minimal overhang ( ie.. 40mm bar 24mm blade length ) usally have to...
Geof - I'm surprised you can not get a better finish on your parts.
for what its worth we use iscar self grip part off tips ( gfn - ic 328 ) i usally pt. off at 2200 to 3500 rpm( g96 s 330 ) (...
these holders are for drilling /boring operations.
you will need 2" o/d sleeves with the i/d's matching u/drill shanks - bore bars - int. grooving tools collet holders etc..

Maxi - swarf inside the collet is all part of the job!
only cleaning out a collet once a fortnight is excellent - you should be stripping down the collet once a week to clean it or you are...
are you using something like the Allied max cut drill with carbide insert (tip) or HSS ??
if using the the former go all the way - no pecks - if using HSS them peck once every inch of depth

If you are looking for the best possible quality then i think the only answer is to find a shop with a mill big enough to do the op in one go.

i second wyld's advice
most of my experience is with turret lathes, but have used platen ' gang tooling ' lathes as well.
i have found that turret lathes offer more flexibility than platens, you can do large diameter...
We have 3 Mycentres - 2 300's and a 400's
all of the 'well used' variety - They seem to do an excellent job, we are running casting work through them.

Depending on how used your m/c is and whether it supports rigid tapping i would go for a 'floating' holder - one that lets the tap either pull out or compress - you will have more control over...
Geof - you made my heart go all fluttery!! :D

I have doing loads of Stub Acme threads,
1st - make sure your tips are Stub ACME and not ACME - same with gage maker rollers, i seem to remember that they have a recall on some of these.

Hi Mike,
you may get away with the 'lazy' way, but you will incurr some run-out, thts ok if you are just doing a non critical cheapo job.
if you can not go smaller think bigger!!!
clamp on...
No worries.!
Look forward to hearing how it all goes
The Nak itself will be an excellent m/c - possibly a bit slow by todays m/c's but rigid and will turn with excellent results.
but i don't fancy the 3T controller!!! - i never went back that far my...
g-codeguy -
that was my thoughts - hence the question.
sorry if i'm missing the point here....
But why a macro prog ?
Kristian,
How does that compare to a shop worker, or a Mechanic's hourly rate?
This is an 'extra' - if you din't pay for graphics when the m/c was new FANUC will turn them on, but usually costs ££££'s - unless you find a very, very friendly FANUC Engineer

Mike is correct...
G50 before calling G96.
you dont need a G97, altho i know some people program a standard G97 S100 M3( or M4 ) at rhe start of the tool and do not invoke G96 until tool is at...
Many thanks HuFlung,

I am playing around with a copy of ONE CNC lathe Pro,
fond it yo be a great program and using it to write out very long and complex profiles for racing car intakes,, so far it has done all i...
:D You would be better off looking at your manuals for prog examples as each machine maker seems to use different codes for activating live tooling
other than this drill tapping and basic milling...
We currently use OEMETA
they have a good coolant for Aluminium - goes well in the m/c, no foaming, no has had any skin reactions, and has a pleasant odour!
