  1. Re: Brown & Sharpe Surface Grinder Electrical Hookup Help.

Thanks, but 220 is within the normal range of motors, most motors can handle 10% high or low voltage. I'm at 240VAC so that's much higher.
  2. Re: 1994 Fadal VMC15XT or Haas 1997 VF-2 Help me decide.

I already offered him 5K and he said no.
  3. Re: 1994 Fadal VMC15XT or Haas 1997 VF-2 Help me decide.

    huh?
  4. Re: 1994 Fadal VMC15XT or Haas 1997 VF-2 Help me decide.

Good to know. Thanks. I just don't think I have the room, which sucks. I mean I've already got a CNC mill, but having a tool changer and keeping all the coolant inside would be nice.
  5. Re: 1994 Fadal VMC15XT or Haas 1997 VF-2 Help me decide.

Ok good to know. Yeah I think the Haas' were all linear too. The guy got back with me and won't come down on the $7k price. I don't think I have room for the Haas, but I'm going to try to go look at...
  6. 1994 Fadal VMC15XT or Haas 1997 VF-2 Help me decide.

So the question is which? And why do you prefer.

The Fadal has the benefit of being the XT and 30" X Travels and the foot print is really good for my space. I just starting asking questions to the...
  7. Brown & Sharpe Surface Grinder Electrical Hookup Help.

I just picked up a Brown & Sharpe 618 Micromaster Surface Grinder. The badge says 208VAC 3Ph, some of the transformers inside the electrical cabinet say 230VAC. The spindle motor says 200VAC. I know...

Re: Advise on Buying a Haas 1997 VF-2

I haven't seen it in person yet. Still doing my research. But I know the shop it came out of and it's been in storage, been inspected and tested by a machinery company. Hence the numbers in the first...

    Advise on Buying a Haas 1997 VF-2

Hi, I have the opportunity to buy a 1997 Haas VF-2. It came out of shop that took care of it. The machinery company that is selling it for the shop did a whole bunch of tests. It has a lot of hours...
  13. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

@cyclestart, you are correct, but from the same perspective look at Mach. I mean if they just spent a day with their engineers and wrote a manual that's worth a dam then they would be even better. I...
  14. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

@ger21, thanks. Yes, I thought your post earlier didn't make too much sense, but then again I don't LOL.

That's a great option. Price is not bad. The refurbished computer I was looking at was $100.
  15. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

@Zasto, thanks. If I'm going with a computer based app I would rather stick with Mach.

So I'm sure I've decided, but here's the breakdown so far.

Mach 4, know it well, with Pokeys, which I know...
  16. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

    @__Britt, impressive endevor.

@routalot, I'm more concerned with not getting help if I need it setting it up, but I think it might be pretty straight forward. I just don't want to deal with...
  17. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

    Kind of like this
    4 axes cnc milling controller

I mean, I like mach 3 and mach 4 and know how to use and build those systems very well, but I still get problems and hate having the external...
  18. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

@deadlykitten, nice but I'm sure out of my price range.

    @ger21, thanks. Will do.
  19. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

Ah, didn't think about all that. Thanks for the replies. Just thought I'd ask before building my new machine. I hate having to build a new desktop computer for Mach 4 as they are so bulky. Before you...
  20. Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

What's the deal with the stand alone CNC controllers? I assume they just plug and play and use their own proprietary software? Also, can they do full 3 axis simultaneous machining and run g-code?
    ...
  21. Bridgeport CNC Conversion, Yes another one, for me too!

Ok so I've built lots of CNC machines. I still have all of them. A First Mill, Bridgeport knock off - one of the best from what H&W says. Anyway, I've did my own conversion on that, jeez, maybe 15...

I would, but I'm super busy building out my new space. If I remember I can in a few months.
  24. Re: Setting Lathe Tool Position - Not Cutting in the center - Help.

Very old post, but I appreciate the response. Turns out I didn't examine the tools holders, they have adjustments on the back to set cutter height. Easy peezy.
  25. Re: Noob Looking for General Info on Stamping Press Machinery

Thanks a bunch. Great information. I'll have this a ponder and let you know.
  26. Re: Noob Looking for General Info on Stamping Press Machinery

    Awesome. Thanks for the info.

So when you say area for calculating the tonnage, do you mean the surface area of the part, or just the surface area of the edges to be cut out? Cause I can calculate...
  27. Noob Looking for General Info on Stamping Press Machinery

I'm a machinist and metal fabricator, but I'm not at all familiar with metal stamping or punching. I want to punch/press (whatever the correct terminology is) quite a lot of spoon shaped items. I...
  28. Re: What CAD/CAM for CNC Lathe, Tried Fusion and RhinoCAM No JOY

@Avongil, what CAD are you using that you find intuitive? I wouldn't say Rhino is intuitive, but once you know how it operates I think it's very easy to use.
  29. Re: Which Fadal? 4020 1992 with 4th Axis or 4020 1998?

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
  30. Re: What CAD/CAM for CNC Lathe, Tried Fusion and RhinoCAM No JOY

    Thanks. I'll try that.
